The Portuguese Wonder, should stick with hockey but has a new sig!

Let's start by saying my Photoshop skills aren't the best, but I'll try to improve the quality as I go!

This is my first graphic/banner/sig for my player, based on a Auston Matthews/Maple Leafs PR photo, with the Hounds' logo and Leandro's number (I'm actually proud that the number on the right arm, which was edited looks almost real(-ish)! 😂

I like that you did even thought to replace the NHL logo on the neckline. The logo swap looks neat and I would not have noticed that a number swap had taken place if you did not mention it. I am no gfx wizard by any stretch of imagination, but I really do like what you did there. The fonts appeal to me, it looks like the 'catch of the day' advertisement in a restaurant, written on a black board (that is no negative thing, I like the catch of the day). Very solid signature in my point of view.

A super solid start. Your attention to detail means that with more practice you'll be cranking out insane stuff in no time. For a first one this is really solid. With the logo it looks like you only used the angle settings in free transform, without doing any free-hand transformation. Try tucking in the sides a bit more and adding some imperfections to make it flow with the jersey's shape. It looks solid as is, especially since it's a round logo (they are by far the hardest to swap). But it could have given it that little bit extra. I also tend to add a very low opacity 1 offset 2 pixel drop shadow to the logo. To give it some perceived depth (since it's stitched on). As well as usually throwing a shadow layer on top of it to add some creases. Then finally do a round of about 1.5-3% add noise to make it not look "too perfect". Most my swaps still don't come out anywhere near as good as I'd like them doing all that. But hope the feedback helps you get some really good ones.

I'll agree with what Daniel said above, if you hadn't mentioned that you shopped the stage right arm's number. I wouldn't have thought about it. Since you expect a 3 on Matthews Jersey anyways, just it's not actually supposed to be there. But you made it look natural enough that the eye wasn't drawn to it. Which is kind of the point with swaps like that. If people can see you did something, you probably did something wrong.😅 Which makes it a lot less fun when you do get it right, because literally no one will notice you even did a thing.

Other than that my biggest advice would be to work some with layer masks on the blue gradient layer to bring out the render's face more (Assuming the Leafs promo shot didn't have hit lit in that blue to begin with). Because the face ends up looking a bit too dark and too "flat". Keeping the blue around the sides of the face to simulate blue rim lighting and still maintaining the actual facial details would also have helped give a focal point to the sig.

But overall for a first it's really good.

P.S. My first attempt at writing this review was yeeted by a power outage lol. 2nd time's the charm.

@Daniel Janser, thank you! The font appealed to me as well, not necessarily for the same reasons, but now that you mentioned it... it actually does remember me of that and, furthermore, that'd be an amazing 'catch'-phrase for a goalie's signature!

@Shindigs, thank you very much for the review and the more technical criticism! I'll go back and apply some of those techniques you talked about and see if I can make it better. I definitely agree with you on the front logo, and I'll even try to create some sort of mask where the logo should be applied on top of the fabric and will follow its flow.

I didn't actually work around the face, but I can see what you're saying! Although that's the actual promo shot, when I get back to try and mix the techniques you talked about in the first paragraph, will try to work on that as well!

(Thank you both for the time you took reviewing this! 🙌)

In that case we'll just have to flame The Maple Leafs PR team then🤣

Very nice graphic, logoswap is pretty daym clean and I love that VHL Crest you added, text is nice and that little shade of blue in it makes it that much better, one thing I could recommend is just adding another effect or something to spice it up a little bit, other than that you have a really solid graphic and its one for sure that would take me weeks to pull off, so none the less, great work! 8.5/10

REVIEW:

First off, this is a great graphic for your first go at making a sig. You did a fantastic job and with just a bit more improvement, you'll be making some amazing graphics. To the graphic though, the logo swap you did with the Hound logo on the jersey is really clean. It looks like it actually belongs on the jersey, which is always a good sign. Next up, you also added the VHL Crest, which I actually didn't see at first, but it looks really natural just like the logo, so good job on that. I also like the choice of text that you ended up adding on the side, it really fits the graphic overall and it's a great choice. My first word of advice would be to try to mess around with layering or something, because there is a lot of blue and it makes Matthew's skin look like he also has a blue tint to it. Last, I personally would darken the Hounds logo you added and possibly blur it a bit, because it really pops out and doesn't necessarily fit the jersey as much as I would personally like it. Regardless, this is a great job for your first sig and keep at it!!

Overall: 8/10
