Story Time - Chapter I, Part 4
Charlotte

Continued from Chapter I, Part 3

The sound of the shot that pierces the fog is loud, clear and way closer than Charlotte is comfortable with. She winces and instinctively throws herself to the ground as it is followed by two more shots and what might be shattering glass. Behind her she can hear her two companions seek cover on the wet, mossy ground as well. She knows that the small forest they are in is bordering a small village and that is where the shots are coming from.

It is quiet again. Without wasting any time checking in with the other two, Charlotte gets back up and moves towards where the sound was coming from, swiftly using the trees as cover.

“Charlotte! Charlotte!” David is whispering loudly, which seems like an utterly pointless way of talking, but it is good enough to get her attention. “Are you seriously thinking about going in there? Those were gunshots!”

“A shotgun, to be exact.” Charlotte isn’t looking at David as she answers him, but fixates on the third member of their little posse instead, who is still lying on the ground, unable to get up. The man’s long brown beard is even dirtier now that it has made contact with the mud, but he doesn’t seem to care and just stares back at Charlotte. “Good thing we tied him up”, she thinks. He is short and somewhat heavy-set and Charlotte assumes that he is about 40 years old. David and her had no problems taking him down when he attacked them this morning, as the two of them were scavenging what looked like an abandoned house, but since then he has barely spoken a word. Charlotte would have just left him in the house as they would have been long gone when he’d wake up, but David insisted on taking him back to the camp for whatever reason. Since then he has followed them, not once trying to run away, but not saying a word either.

David notices her look and realizes that the man, who only identified himself as “Que” can’t get up by himself. As he pulls him back to his feet, he asks “So you just want to run into the fire of this shotgun? I know you have your Katana and I have my gun, but this is just stupid. We have no idea what is in this village, we don’t know who fired and why! And we also still have this guy with us… Let’s drop him at the camp first, we can always come back here when we’ve dropped him off and brought some more people, just to make sure.”

What should they do?

A: Let everyone investigate.

B: Leave Que behind and investigate.

C: Leave David with Que and let Sarah investigate.

D. Leave Sarah with Que and let David investigate.

E: Get back to camp.

Please vote in the poll to help decide what the group does next, and of course I'm looking forward to comments as well. Also I'm still experimenting with times and perspectives a bit, so some of that could still change over the next few chapters.]
