RomanesEuntDomus 442
Tough Start For Collier in Vasteras It was a disappointing first game in Vasteras for David Collier. After getting up at 5 am and flying to Sweden just hours after learning that he had been traded, Collier ended up only playing 6 minutes for his new team in a bitter 4-0 loss against the Calgary Wranglers. And things didn’t exactly get better for Collier after his debut, with a coach that didn’t know him and teammates he barely got to practice with due to the condensed schedule late in the season, the German forwards ice time hovered around six to seven minutes for his first half dozen games with the Iron Eagles. Coming from a team where he was the undisputed star and among the league leaders in points, Collier suddenly had to settle for a depth role without any special teams ice time. “Yeah it was a rough transition for sure”, Collier commented when asked about how much things had changed for him within the course of days, “I didn’t expect to play the same role and to be given the same opportunities that I had in Cologne, but I certainly didn’t anticipate such a steep drop in ice time and production.” In 14 games for the Iron Eagles so far, Collier has only scored two goals and was able to add one assist. The only bright spot right now is his +6 rating which combined with his decent hit totals shows that he has at least been a reliable defensive player, but that’s about it for him personally. “It helps to see that the team is doing well right now, so I don’t have to worry about my own production too much”, Collier added. “The guys in the locker room have been great so far and they make up for my lack of effectivity by playing great hockey themselves. And I guess I kind of had to expect how things went so far, I’m playing for a new coach who hasn’t really had a chance to judge me in practice before our first few games and I’m also coming into a new system with different tactics and different responsibilities. It’s only normal that in a situation like that were we are in a tight playoff race, a coach sticks to the players he knows and trusts.” Collier isn’t the only player that the Iron Eagles have acquired at the deadline who is struggling though. Chico Salmon and Jack Sound, who came to the team from the Toronto Legion, both have had their fair share of problems as well. Salmon has yet to score a goal for Vasteras and is one of the few minus players on the team, as is Sound who was at least able to put up 7 points in 14 games, but still saw his point totals drop compared to the pace he was on in Toronto. “At the end of the day I think it’s just part of a normal transition process”, Collier concludes. “We all are in a new environment and it’s not just one player coming in, it’s three players replacing three other guys that were traded away. A process like this takes time, but I’m confident that we will be ready to actually help this team come playoff time!” Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/11840-claimedtough-start-for-collier-in-vasteras/ Share on other sites
