A Busy Offseason for Landon Wolanin

Recommended Posts

The offseason has been a busy one so far for Landon Wolanin. He has taken advantage of the many opportunities available around the league to participate, and hopes to build up a wealth of both playing and management experience.

When it comes to playing, Landon has finished a bit of a heartbreaking season with Istanbul, losing out in the first round to the eventual upset (in my opinion) champions. Tough place to be as a player, knowing you could’ve been there competing in the finals with a shot to win. But what is done is done, and looking to a long and hopefully fruitful future, Landon has taken the opportunity to stay in game form by participating in the Victory ProAm tournament. Drafted to ex-teammate, captain and now VHLM champion Juan Ceson’s Jersey City Jerseys, Landon hopes to get some offense rolling before the new season begins. Landon has been brought up to the Wranglers main squad and the pieces for a strong Wranglers season are already starting to fall into place. It is more about finding the right pieces than just finding pieces for the Wranglers, and so deals have to be made to put forward the best team possible.

When it comes to management, Landon has been particularly busy. A truly heartbreaking ending to an amazing season for the San Diego Marlins, bested in 6 by their season-long rivals the Las Vegas Aces. Two true titans dueling it out and the best goalie won the series. Hard to swallow, and definitely not a landslide of a series for either team. Landon and Frank both look forward tentatively to the upcoming VHLM draft, both unsure of their positions for next season, but both eager to find out and if neither end up in the positions they’ve applied for, will try to recreate the glory of the S83 Marlins again in S84. Landon has been building up his resume with the Brigade of the JST and Team World of the WJC. The Brigade have gone on a heroic playoff run, toppling the 1st seed and are so far 2-0 in an incredibly tight battle with ex-Brigade GM Cole’s Royals. The WJC are just about to start, and Team World hopes to get off to a good start. Landon will be taking on a depth role with the team, in order to highlight the amazing talent that the World has to offer. The team is stacked with talent from the VHLE and VHLM, and hopes to maintain a competitive record against the rest of the teams.

Landon has been really focussing on the upcoming VHLM draft, knowing full well the player pool is rather small, hoping to find some diamond-in-the-rough type players to bring success to whichever team he is a part of next season in the VHLM. Landon hopes to remain a front-running candidate for a VHLM GM job, riding the momentum of a monstrous debut season, and a busy offseason of managing at all available levels. It is hard to compete with the other candidates, veterans of management, all deserving of a position somewhere at some point.

Only time will tell, and the events of the offseason will be crucial to having success in the upcoming S84.

Review: The offseason is always one of the busiest periods in the VHL! I enjoyed that you took us to multiple parts of Wolanin's career, both playing on the ice and managing on the side. You've got some detailed points in both paragraphs where you talk about both his playing and managing career which I really valued when reading the Media Spot. Little stuff like adding a title heading and a picture could've enhanced the work.  Overall well done and I'm looking forward to S84 as much as you. 8/10
