Greg_Di 1,038
While there is still quite a few games to go until the playoffs start, Henry has declared himself playoff ready. After continuous rigorous training and receiving experience in the VHLE, Henry has reached top shape in order to perform in a long playoff push. He has been training multiple facets of his game and here we will break down the main items he has been training for and how it will help him in the playoffs: Scoring: The biggest trait Henry has been working on is improving his scoring. As a scoring winger, he main goal is to put the puck in the back of the net. If he is unable to do this then he is not playing up to his standards. Henry has been working with his scoring coach in order to look at new ways he can grip his stick and new ways at getting off shots quicker. " I am confident in my shot accuracy and power but coach has helped me look at different ways on shot releases which has been really helping me" said Henry "The puck feels much better coming off my stick and it has shown in the last couple games as I was able to help the team out with a few extra goals" Henry will need to make sure that he is capable of putting the puck in the net if Bratislava wants to be successful. Being on the 3rd line and having a scoring touch can make Henry become a secret weapon. Most teams don't expect 3rd liners to be snipers and this is where Bratislava can utilize Henry. Defense: Another aspect Henry has been working on is his defensive game. While it's true he is a sniper, you need to be able to play on both ends of the ice if you want to become a top player in the VHL or even the VHLE. Henry has always struggled with his defensive game and he made sure this season to take time and learn. He has been getting help from coaches and his defensive team-mates in order to be able to read the game better defensively and get into positions where he is able to intercept the puck. "I was never a real fan of defense when I was younger, I would always try to cherry pick and get those breakaway goals" Henry said " but I realized that in order to become a pro and to be the best player on the ice, that you need to have some defensive skills. You need to be able to help your team out on both ends and I think I am at a point now where my coaches and team can depend on me in the defensive side of the game" There has been a great improvement for Henry on the defensive end which has helped his 3rd line stay positive in the +/- ratings. His defensive play has helped stopped many goals and his team is more then happy that he is not just a one trick pony as there is many of those in the league. Henry is able to differentiate himself and this will help him become a better player heading into the future.
