With the elimination of the San Diego Marlins from the VHLM playoffs, Sadie St-Louis’ first season in the league has come to a close. While success in the playoffs eluded her in this initial season, there were many other positives that came out of it. Today, she is being interviewed about her thoughts on her rookie season and her future.

“Sadie, in the first 13 games of your career, you were more than a point per game with 20 points. Were you expecting to put up that many or are you surpassing your own expectations as well in the VHLM?”

“I am surprised and happy with the experience I’ve had in the VHLM so far. To be honest, I didn’t fully expect to be offered a VHLM contract this year. Playing in this league has been a great opportunity and I have gotten to meet some great people so far. As far as points go, I had almost no expectations coming in but I hope teams take them into consideration when the draft comes around. I know it’s definitely building up my self esteem for next year though!

“As you know, the Junior Showcase Tournament is approaching fast. You will be playing against the best players of your class and given the chance to outperform them in the eyes of scouts. How do you think the tournament will go for the Brigade and yourself?”

“The JST seems like a great opportunity to get more playing time in the offseason as well as a chance to meet other players/management outside of San Diego. I look forward to helping the Brigade win the tournament and build chemistry with some teammates. Based on how the regular season went, and being an early-ish tournament draft pick, I think I can contribute well over the course of the competition.

“Before the next season starts, you will be drafted back into the VHLM in the dispersal draft. How do you feel about potentially being on a new team and how do you think you will fare next year.”

“I have really enjoyed playing for the Marlins and spending time with the team. But I’m sure that whoever I end up being drafted by will give me access to a similar positive environment and encouragement to what I had last season. At least I hope that’s the case. Next year I hope to show everybody how good I can really be.

“What is the area of your game you are going to work on improving the most this offseason? And what skill would you say you are best at?”

“I am going to work on making my defensive play stronger. It is one of the most important areas of the game and one that helps improve my offense as well. When the opposing team has the puck for less time, my team will have many more chances to score goals. The best aspect of my game is my shot in my opinion. I have worked on it a lot over time and I think I’ve gotten it to a point where it can be a weapon that other teams will have to look out for.”

“Thanks for your time today, good luck in the season ahead!”
