Dion.OvOxO 26
ROOKIE PROFILE Name: Yannik Zug Position: Right Wing Birthplace: Lausanne, Switzerland Birthday: May 16th 1994 Height: 6'0 Weight: 185 Lbs Jersey Number: 88 Introduction Yannik Zug is a very interesting prospect coming into the Victory Hockey League. Very few scouts knew about this Swiss born player, in fact only a few teams where scouting Yannik for the 40th VHLM Dispersal Draft those teams where the Yukon Rush and the team that drafted Yannik, the Brampton Blades. Despise being a unknown prospect, some scouts will say that Yannik one day could become a offensive threat in the VHL if he reaches that level. Many Swedish scouts will tell you about Yannik as he came from HV71 of the Swedish Hockey League, he was mostly there for the experience but managed to play 20 games and produced 2 goals and 6 assists for a total of 8 points during the season. In this Rookie Profile you will learn about the very interrogating Yannik Zug. Some scouts say he has all the potential in the world if the commitment and dedication is there, but others say he wont have a shot in the Victory Hockey League. Strengths Yannik's strengths in his game are mostly with his speed, defense and his playmaking ability. Scouts around Sweden and Switzerland will say if you wanna play with Yannik you better be prepared to play "keep up" with him. Yannik has explosive speed and is one of the better skaters in the Swedish Hockey League. Yannik won the "Fastest Skater Competition" on his team in HV71's annual fan appreciation day clocking in at 13.218 seconds. Yannik not only has great offensive potential but also plays a very safe two-way game. Yannik has very high hockey IQ and takes his defensive game very seriously, especially getting penalty kill time as a rookie on HV71 was very impressive for him as a player and his coach as well. Yannik compares himself to Pavel Datsyuk and that is why Yannik plays the game he does. As Yannik matures and develops in the VHLM you should expect him be one of the top tier defensive forwards come in time for the VHL Entry Draft. Now onto Yannik's "bread and butter" his playmaking. Yannik will see things on the ice that many players will not see, if Yannik sees something you better be prepared because he will dish that puck to you if he thinks it will lead to a great scoring chance. Yannik also has fantastic stick handling skills and can move the puck efficiently and create many plays on the ice, quick crisp passes is Yannik's specialty. If you want to play with a player that reads the ice well, than Yannik is the player you will want to be playing with. Weaknesses Physical play for Yannik is a no go. Yannik will rarely engage in physical play and will try to avoid it if possible. It just isnt in Yannik's nature to lay the big hit on someone if needed to stir up the pot, Yannik plays his game and will stick to that. But as Yannik matures he will need to learn to engage in some physical play in North America and is willing to adapt if needed but for now its a no. Even though Yannik is a very well rounded offensive player, Yannik's shot isnt the greatest and usually wont shoot unless he knows its a great scoring chance, expect Yannik to pass the puck more than often. The final weakness of Yannik's game will be his strength. Again it ties into Yannik's weakness with his physical play. Yannik isnt the strongest guy in the world and he knows that, Yannik will have to become more committed to the gym as he grows and develops. Yannik's lower strength is fantastic as he is a very superb skater, but it is upper body that will need the most work and will have to fill it out as he plays in the VHLM before heading to the Victory Hockey League one day.
