Sabres express disappointment at locker cleanout

Today we sit with Henry Eagles as Henry and his team were eliminated from VHLM playoffs in a heart-breaking 4-2 series loss. We discuss with Henry about the series, his off-season and the upcoming draft.

R: Hi Henry, sad day today as you and your team have been eliminated. What are your feelings after this intense series?

HE: It's tough to swallow. We know we could have won the series, it was just unfortunate and unlucky to have ended this way. It's even tougher when you see Istanbul taking a big lead in the finals and knowing that could have been us.

R: Is there anything you think you could have improved to help the team?

HE: I definitely could have played better. 5 points in 6 games is not that great considering I got those points in the first couple of games. Getting kicked out of the game on my first shift in game 3 was also not the smartest idea and who knows what could have happened if I stayed on. It seems to me like my production went down hill after that ejection. It's a tough lesson to learn.

R: What was the feeling in the locker room after the OT loss that eliminated the team?
HE: I would say heart-break. Everyone wanted this to go to game 7 and when we went up 2-0 in game 6 we thought it would go that way...unfortunately Istanbul fought there way back and we just fell apart. I know this will sit on the minds of all the players here as they venture off into there careers. No one will want to have this feeling again.

R: What are your plans for the off-season?
HE: Like always I will be training. I don't take any days off and with the draft coming up I want to be in the best possible shape that I can be. I also want to show any of my future teams that I don't take any days off. I will be working on improving my defense and puck handling so that I can continue to contribute on both sides of the ice.

R: Speaking of the draft, how are you feeling? Where do you think you will go?

HE: I am feeling great, I think I have shown enough in the M and E of what I am made of. My work ethic in training also has been showcased. It's hard to say where I will go, it all depends on the drafting teams needs. I think a top 3 pick is what is being predicted. Personally I am hoping 2nd or higher so that I can claim being the top picked Eagles. Tom, my father, was picked 3rd overall so I definitely want to beat him

R: Have any teams reached out yet?
HE: I had one team reach out so far but at the same time I also know it is early. I expect interviews to pickup once the VHL playoffs are completed. I am looking forward to speaking with each team and seeing if I can be a fit for any of their needs.

R: Do you have a preference of what team?
HE: No preference, I will give it my all to any team that drafts me. There is that potential Vancouver connection though where the first Eagles, Greg, was drafted so that would always be a cool storyline for the media but I will be happy wherever I get chosen.

R: That's all the time we have for today, best of luck to you in the draft! We can't wait to see where you will be playing next season.

HE: Thank you and take care!
