Reflecting on the 1st round of the S86 VHLE Draft

1. Istanbul - Rick Grimes

2. Istanbul - Daryl Dixon

Istanbul kicked off the draft well, and in not the most surprising way. The duo of Grimes and Dixon have been together in the past and there was a very good chance that with back to back picks, any team with the opportunity would draft these two. With Dixon at over 350 TPE and with Grimes at almost 300, these are some of the best players available and should be the key in any success Istanbul has.

3. Rome - Left Alone

This may have come as a bit of a surprising pick to many- this was a reach of a pick in terms of TPE with 221 compared to many other players available. But that doesn't take away from the fact that Rome gained a great player today. Earning 12 TPE for many weeks in a row prior to this, Left Alone is consistent and will make a great addition to the Gladiators. Having accrued 71 points in 72 games in the VHLM last season, Alone has shown they can produce, and do it at a high level.

4. Vasteras - Yaroslav Bogyatrev

This is an interesting pick from Vasteras given that Bogyatrev is very close to the 400 TPE cap for the VHLE and is eligible to move to the VHL. I do not know yet whether they will be staying in the E or moving to the VHL (this depends on the VHL draft) but if they stay, this is a home run pick for Vasteras, getting an extremely high TPE player who can do everything. This is potentially a huge piece of being competitive for a championship this year.

5. Stockholm - Sadie St-Louis

Sadie St-Louis is a left winger with 279 TPA so far. While some may have expected a higher TPE pick, she is active, and has shown she can produce well and consistently at the VHLM level with 85 points in 72 games (many of these were playing as a defenseman). She is max earning almost every week and should be a key piece in what is going to be a tough to beat Stockholm lineup this year (with all of the Marlins legends they have added).

6. Rome - Jens Lekman

Jens Lekman is an extremely talented defenseman who has shown their prowess at both ends of the ice. Scoring 69 points in 72 games in the VHLM, Lekman is a force to be reckoned with- these are great point totals for a defenseman. Rome finishes out a solid first round for themselves, taking a forward and a defenseman both over 200 TPE (Lekman has 218). While Lekman has claimed welfare in recent weeks, they still earn very well and will develop into an even better player who should be scary around playoff time.

7. Geneva - Rex Wolffe Gregor

Gregor is one of the best D-men available in this draft- quick on their feet and a sharp defender, Geneva is making a smart pick with the first of their first rounders. Gregor is a max earner with the help of affiliate TPE and is coming off a 50 point season with Philadelphia. They also won a championship with the Reapers and put up 17 points in 18 games!

8. Geneva - Leonard Triller

With their second first rounder, Geneva takes a forward in Leonard Triller. While they have 203 TPE to their name (the least to this point in the draft) Triller is a great pass first forward who is dependable wherever you put them be that on the power play or late in the game. They posted 52 points in 55 games, almost a point per game this year in the VHLM! With Geneva owning 3 o the following 10 picks, these two are a great setup to what could be a big year for this Rush team!

This article gives a great summary of the players selected and the expectations each team should have for them.  Congrats to the number one drafted player Rick Grimes.  Good luck in Istanbul, good luck in the VHLE. Hopefully each player selected can live up to their own expectations and compete well over the next year. Keep growing, building TPE and we will see you in the VHL one day.  Good luck in the VHL Draft, hopefully you get a team that is looking forward to having you.

Well written article, Author should be proud of their work.
