Arriving in Vancouver

Breaking news, after a shocking turn of event’s Moscow’s Sergey Preobrazhensky was traded to the Vancouver Wolves for star left winger, Nico Pearce. It became a shock to many, including Sergey, but many could understand why Moscow would want to trade Sergey. Moscow wanted to make sure that their offense could become more consistent, a variable that Moscow’s offense had struggled to do all season. They decided to change their fortunes to bring in Nico Pearce, an electric goal scorer that has been able to have plenty of success in Vancouver. But everything has a price, it seemed like Sergey didn’t fit into the offensive scheme that Moscow was hoping to build this season, therefore letting him go was Moscow’s best option.

Vancouver was a team coming into the season that had themselves set on being an extremely competitive team this year. Unfortunately, they have been slipping all year and have struggled to find footing in a competitive North American Conference, being placed fifth in the conference. They had to do something to get this team’s sprite to change, Sergey seemed like the right guy to do it.

After arriving in Vancouver for the first time, Sergey took some time to answer some questions from reporters. This was the first time Sergey would publicly talk about his new chapter of his hockey career.

Reporter: "Sergey, what were your first initial reactions to this trade?"

Sergey: "To be completely honest with you, I didn’t expect it at all, it was rough at first to say goodbye to the city I grew up in. But I’m looking forward to all the fun opportunities I’ll have here in Vancouver."

Reporter: "What are your expectations for the team? As you probably already know, Vancouver hasn’t had the season they’ve wanted so far, does that change anything?"

Sergey: "You should probably already know the answer to that by now. That doesn’t change a thing. My goals and expectations for this team are the very same I had with Moscow. I want this team to see Continental Cup glory once again. "

Reporter: "After over three seasons in Moscow, will it be hard to adjust to playing hockey in Vancouver?"

Sergey: "I’m sure there will be some big learning curves I’ll have when first playing for Vancouver. Of course, every VHL team’s strategies are different from each other in their own unique way. I’ll make sure to spend some time studying Vancouver’s playbook so that I’m on the same page with all of the guys here. All I need is time to adjust. "

Over the ten games Sergey has played with Vancouver, he’s shown flashes of brilliance and expertise, but still shows some rust after being newly acquainted with a new team.  So far, he’s been able to score eight points with Vancouver, while also having a hat trick in his fifth game for Vancouver against the Toronto Legion. Watching Sergey in Vancouver will definitely be a lot to take in for many, but it was the best for both parties to move on.
