Avalanche players, staff bring Stanley Cup to southern Alberta | CTV News

The Vancouver Wolves and Henry Eagles have won the Continental Cup! This is the Wolves 4th cup since Season 80 and first for Henry Eagles. Today we are lucky enough to sit with Henry and discuss with him the championship win and some other information regarding him and the Wolves.

R: First off Henry, congratulations on the cup win! Must feel amazing and exciting at the same time?
H: It feels awesome! I am so happy to be able to bring the cup back to the amazing Wolves fans! They have been great for us all season and they deserve it just as much as we do.

R: Many people had written you off in the playoffs and then also in the finals when the Wolves went down 2-0. Did that in any way motivate the team to do better?

H: It definitely did! We were the underdogs from the start as most thought we would lost to the Wranglers. We played very well and knocked them off. In the finals as soon as we went down 2-0 everyone was saying the fairy tale story had ended but we had a twist ending waiting for everyone as we managed to come back and win. This goes to show you should never write off anyone. In the playoffs any team can win and any team can come back from a big deficit.

R: A fun fact your grandfather, Greg Eagles, also won a cup with the Wolves. Can you discuss a little about that?

H: He was the first Eagles to win a cup and I guess its full circle now with him winning a cup and then his grandson winning a cup with the same team. It's definitely interesting for sure!

R: We have also heard you recently accepted a 5 year contract with the Wolves which will see you spend pretty much most your career with the Wolves, what was the thoughts behind that?

H: I love being here, we have a great locker room and the management has been great. We just won a cup and it was a no brainer to commit to the Wolves for the long terms. Similar to my grandfather where he spend almost his whole career here. It's a great place to play and I think we have the team to win a few more cups!

R: What are your plans for the off-season?

H: Same as always, back to training and no time off. I have to keep working hard to get better. I want to break that 100pt mark next season. I am still not 100% happy with my point totals and I need to do better. That is the goal and we will see if I can finally achieve it this upcoming season.

R: Where will you take the cup for your one day?

H: I will take it back home to Poland and celebrate with the Polish fans there and luckily I was able to get it for one extra day where I will come and celebrate with the Vancouver fans as well as my grandfather and father. I always like to share these moments with the fans and those that helped me become the player I am today.
