Coming out of Helsinki a couple of days ago, D Reid Johnson inked a one-year contract extension with the Titans (VHL), erasing all speculation of the second year defenseman to test free agency after this season.

"I'm very happy to be staying in Helsinki. While our team is currently struggling, I can ensure that my services will be needed for the next season or so. I thank the front office for giving me another chance to prove myself."

Helsinki made a statement regarding the signing of Johnson:

"The Helsinki Titans are proud to announce that we have signed D Reid Johnson to a one-year extension. Reid is a young and bright defenseman with gobs of potential. We look forward to continuing to work with Reid and are excited to see his maturing in the VHL."

So far this season, Johnson has tallied 1 goal and 6 assists in 12 games. He looks to continue putting up numbers as a rough season looms ahead of a rebuilding Helsinki.

Many fans are happy with the signing, littering the comments on the Titan's social media pages.

"Great signing!"

"Better start buying Johnson jerseys, hell of a player."

Only time will tell if Johnson can help lead Helsinki out of the basement.
