The Seattle Bears dropped Game 5 of their Conference Final series with the Calgary Wranglers on Sunday night. The powerplay was the key for the Alberta side in this contest, as they scored twice on five powerplay attempts. On the other side, the Bears only got one opportunity to go on the man advantage, a fact that drew ire from the Bears management, players, and fans as the game got away from Seattle.

“I think it’s a joke that playoff games, and potentially series, are being decided by the referees. This is playoff hockey, they aren’t meant to be having any influence on the game. When you see that all of the penalties are little trips or holds, this is the sort of stuff that shouldn’t be happening. I don’t want to say that we lost because of them, but their actions certainly made winning more difficult for us,” Yaroslav Bogatyrev said in the mixed zone immediately after Sunday’s game.

The Seattle Bears management declined to make any additional comment over the standard of the refeering in Game 5 of the Conference Finals. We also reached out to the VHL to see if they were planning to issue any supplementary discipline to Bogatyrev and the Bears for the former’s outburst.
