MOSCOW, August 28, 2023 (Shaibu.ru) – The Yaroslav Bogatyrev era has got underway in Seattle. The Russian forward was named as the team’s new captain this offseason, but it’s fair to say that it’s been the worst start for the Bears since S87. After several seasons in a row of topping the standings, the Bears have faltered coming out of the blocks.

The Bears have a 5-3-2 record through the first 10 games, although at one point, the Seattle side had a 1-3-2 record. Seattle have won their last four games, including two impressive performances against the Toronto Legion (3-0 win) and the Vancouver Wolves (3-1). After conceding 11 goals in their first two games, Clueless Wallob and the Seattle defensive unit look to have tightened things up.

Looking up front, one is not surprised to see the likes of Randy Bobandy, Leandro Goncalves and Yaroslav Bogatyrev at the top of the scoring charts for the Bears, and on the back end, Scoish Velociraptor Maloish is having a breakout season, scoring at a point per game clip so far.

Speaking after last night’s win against the Vancouver Wolves, in which he scored the insurance empty net marker, Bogatyrev said that he was happy with how the Bears were turning things around after a rotten start.

“It’s fair to say that Toronto and Vancouver are top of the top teams in the North American Conference, and to have us put in two complete performances like that, it’s a really positive step for the team. It’s been a transition period, with us losing several key players who had been at the centre of the locker room, and so it’s our responsibility to take over and start to put in solid performances for our fans,” Bogatyrev told reporters after Sunday’s game.

When it came to his own performance, Bogatyrev said that the pressure of having the C on his chest wasn’t weighing on him.

“I’m delighted to be leading this team forward. For me, it’s essential that I’m putting in performances that help our team win. Goals and assists don’t matter to my personal record, but I’m desperate to ensure that I’m contributing at all ends of the ice in order for his to win games. There’s a good mood in the camp, and it’s great to see the team coming together. We know that this is a crucial season for us, and we need to be competing for the Continental Cup once more,” Bogatyrev said.

The Russian forward said that he was also delighted to play alongside veteran Leandro Goncalves, one of the league’s premier players of the past 10 seasons.

“Playing alongside a legend like Leandro is a delight for me. He sees the ice so well, and he’s been able to generate and finish off chances. It’s giving me the opportunity to play my game, and I feel that you can learn so much from a player like him. We’re lucky to have him, and I hope we can help him get the cup he deserves,” Bogatyrev remarked.
