PROSPECT SCOUTING REPORT

Jean-Pierre Devote is a hockey player from the streets of Monte Carlo. One would think that being from Monaco, Jean-Pierre would have gotten into racing rather than hockey, and he did for a while. This was until one day when he was 6 years old, while on vacation in Germany, his father took him to see a DEL game, and from the moment he started watching, he was hooked.

Devote, while not the largest person on the ice, is one of the fastest, and his natural scoring ability and shooting prowess makes him a tough opponent for any goalie or defenseman. Devote has amazing offensive vision, while retaining a decent grasp on defensive play and positioning, this well-roundedness has allowed him to become one of the greatest Monegasque hockey prospects in history before ever playing a game above the Champions Hockey League level. He’s currently coming off a wonderful U18 season with the ZSC Lions of the CHL and the National League in Switzerland. During his U18 season in the NL he had 26 goals and 39 assists for 65 points in 52 games, and in the CHL tournament he had 4 goals and 6 assists for 10 points in 7 games. Devote’s consistent and balanced play style has made him a solid player and he was given the ZSC Lions’ assistant captaincy for his U19 season. Despite being so young, his coach has said many times that Devote is a born leader, both on and off the ice. Whether it’s helping his community, helping other players better themselves, or leading the team to score on the ice, Devote is always there to help.

VHL Scouts have been visiting the NL all the way through this season, and have been creating reports on the young Monegasque player, here are some of their opinions on his play:

Jean-Pierre Devote

Playstyle: Sniper

Closest Professional Comparison: Leon Draisaitl

Strengths:

Elite goal-scoring ability and shooting prowess

High-level vision while on the ice, able to make difficult passes with relative ease

High skill ceiling

Born leader

Weaknesses:

Overthinks occasionally

Not very strong physically compared to other players in his age group

Mid-level defensive awareness

Overall Opinion:

Jean-Pierre Devote is a special prospect, not often seen in the VHL’s radar. He has an immensely high skill ceiling, provided he is given the opportunity to grow alongside other players, and has the potential to become one of the VHL’s most elite wingers. It is also very likely that, given the opportunity, Devote will break the Monegasque VHL scoring record set back in the 60s and become the greatest hockey player to ever hail from Monaco if given the right tools.
