Willcox answers questions from reporters during locker clean out

In a season that ended in bitter disappointment for Travis Willcox and the Brampton Blades, the Welsh winger is preparing for an off-season that will bring about big change. After the completion of the season forty playoffs, Willcox will join his fellow season forty-two VHL draft prospects into the VHLM dispersal draft. With no picks in the first round for Brampton, all signs point to Willcox packing his bags and joining a new team for season forty-one. After a successful rookie campaign with the Blades, Willcox hopes that there will be a way to be with Brampton next season.

" When I joined the Blades earlier this season after playing in Cardiff, it was a huge jump for me. I never found myself outside of Europe before this season, and I was nervous as hell to leave everything I have back home in Wales in order to come over. Now that I find myself getting comfortable here in Canada, I might not be back. While this is not an ideal situation for myself, I know this has to be done to further my progression. My agent let it be known to me that the both Bern and Bratislava hold multiple first round draft picks in the upcoming VHLM draft; being closer to home in Europe will bring about some comfort for myself as I would imagine that friends and family would attend multiple games. " - Travis Willcox

Blades' forwards A.C. Savage and Travis Willcox along with fellow season forty-two VHL draft prospects answer questions from the media.

Entering the season forty-one off-season, Willcox is looking to further progress his game in order to rise to the top of the season forty-two draft rankings. Working alongside the Blades' coaching staff, Willcox has been further developing his two-way defensive style of play. Showcasing these skills throughout the season, Willcox was able to make vast improvements to his game as he got more ice time under his belt. He finished his twenty-two game campaign with over a hit per game, addressing the concerns that scouts had that he did not use his big frame enough to punish opposing players. The Welsh prospect also finished with a plus/minus of +3, showcasing that Willcox is a very reliable player in his own end. As he enters season forty-one, Willcox is looking to stand out as one of the top defensive forwards in the game.

" It is no secret that I am not a player that will put up fifty goals or one hundred points, I am a player that will give his all each and every shift. My skills show in my own end, where I can shut down opposing forwards and win puck battles in the corner. I will be working more on my play making abilities this off-season, as I know that the VHLM is a offensive league and I can't totally abandon my offence. I know one thing for sure, I will be a force to be reckoned with next season. " - Travis Willcox

In an off-season that will be full of change for Willcox, he will be ready for whatever will come his way. Expectations are high for Willcox's first full VHLM season, as he will try to  lead his team to a championship performance. Whether it be in Brampton, Europe, or another North American division team, Willcox is sure to show that he is worthy of being a first round pick in the season forty-two VHL draft.
