Another Hot Start for Malmo, Sparks

Recommended Posts

11 games into a new VHL season, the Malmo Nighthawks find themselves in a familiar position - atop the European Conference. Sporting an 8-2-1 record early on, the Nighthawks have continued to combine a balanced attack from a deep roster with strong defense and goaltending.

The team has four players with double-digit points already (Viktor Jensen, Ronald Johnson MacWallace III, and Phillip Rave). Jacob Stone has 8 points himself and leads a defense that features all four players having at least 20 blocked shots, and every player on the team has a +/- between +3 and +7, showcasing the overall balance of Malmo's roster.

And yet - for a player continually stated as the team's weak point despite his exceptional track record - it's been Ash Sparks showcasing some of the finest hockey of his career that's helped Malmo to the top of the table, as Sparks has put up a 1.88 GAA and .942 save percentage through 11 starts.

It's early, but if Sparks - poised to become the best goaltender in Malmo's history - has saved his best hockey for last, the Nighthawks will be difficult to remove from their perch in S94.
