The info: Matej Nemecek a product of Bratislava, Slovakia. The Slovakian rookie has had a great start to the year in Yukon. He was selected midseason by the Yukon Rush and played out the remainder of the year with the club. He’s a 6’5 forward who has spent time on the wing so far with the Yukon Rush. Matej Nemecek notched 18 goals and had 36 assists for 54 points in his rookie season with the Rush.

The breakdown: The big rangy forward has already shown nice strides in his skating and strength on his skates over the past few months. While not being extremely fast out of the gate, he possesses a powerful stride along with the ability to make plays at top speed. He sees the ice extremely well, bringing a nice balance of hockey sense to the table. He seems to be a fairly even threat as both a shooter and a playmaker while also possessing a willingness to get dirty and play physical. While his skating has improved it can definitely use more refining as he gets both stronger and leaner, with a more explosive start potentially giving him a new dynamic to his game. He can also use a bit more jam during his play along the wall, while also needing to work on his stick strength during one on one battles.

Current ranking: Matej Nemecek currently sits just inside the top 30 players for the S41 VHL Entry Draft, sitting at 25th overall. This projection would make Nemecek likely to be a third round selection in the draft.

You had a very good debut season in the VMHL. Did you think to have such a season?

Well, it’s still yet to say that it was easy and successful. I prepared myself very accurately and tried not to get out of shape when the games started. I tried giving my best and improve in each game.

What do you think, what part of your game you think you should work on?

I think I need to work on playing better defense, in the own zone.

Before going to the VHLM, did you think about the VHL?

Of course, playing in the VHL is my dream and my goal. VHL is always on my mind and is the top league and all I want to do in my career is play in the best league that I can possibly play on.

What type of player can we expect from you?

I’m a hard working two way forward who loves to play against other teams top lines. I’m mainly a shutdown forward who plays the tough minutes on the penalty kill and against opposing teams strongest players.

It was good a good overview of Nemecek's game, but I felt it could of gone more in depth. It is exactly 450 words, and I think you could of given more to some questions, especially the one on what part of your game you could work on. Still pretty good and with a little bit more it could be a 3/3.

Grammar: 1.5/2

  • Matej Nemecek a product of Bratislava, Slovakia. --> Matej Nemecek is a product of Braitslava, Slovakia. Still kind of doesn't make make sense as a stand alone sentence. I would of went Matej Nemecek, who is a product of Bratislava, Slovakia, had a great start to the year in Yukon.
  • Big, rangy
  • and a playmaker, while
  • has improved, it can
  • What do you think, what part of your game you think you should work on? --> In your opinion, what part of your game do you think you should work on?
  • other team's top lines
  • in the own zone --> in my own zone

Had a picture and it was easy to read. Could of added a title or another picture. Kind of plain. Easy to fix up for next time.

I agree a with everything that twillcox has down, but I don't feel that you deserve to lose the points this time around.

Content: 3/3

I noticed you repeated yourself a number of times, which isn't as big a deal if you're closer to 550 or 600 words than when you're barely hitting the mark at 450.  You also transitioned into the interview portion without giving the reader any warning, which isn't the nicest.
Really, I think the biggest fault is that your article is so short. A few more words here and there would flesh it out beautifully. I'll keep my eyes open for your next article, but you'll get full points this time.

Grammar: 2/2

Twillcox got most of them.

Appearance: 1/1

I found that grey really tough to read after a few lines on the white, actually. That being said, you also broke it up into nice bullets and had a picture. I'd love for you to tie the picture in more, or give it a subheading explaining how it relates to the story for next time.

Totals: 5/6 + 6/6 = 5.5 TPE, rounded up to 6.
