Legion Balanced Scoring

Recommended Posts

The Toronto Legion are the first team in the VHL this season to have four 20 goal scorers on the roster, a testament to their balanced scoring approach. There are three teams in the VHL who have three 20 goal scorers at the moment (London, Seattle, and Warsaw), but it was Toronto who won the race to four when Harry Callahan hit the mark last week. Here's a breakdown of those four scorers:

Jimi Jaks
Goals: 32 (2nd in VHL)

Powerplay Goals: 4 (t-31st)

Shorthanded Goals: 0 (t-28th)

Game Winning Goals: 6 (t-6th)

Shots: 315 (2nd)

The Legion leader in goals sits second in the league in goals scored and shots, showing the offensive ability to lead the highest scoring team in the league. It's nothing new for Jaks, who has already passed the 30 goal mark for the fifth time in his career. Jaks is on pace for 59 goals this season.

Diego Machado
Goals: 29 (4th)

Powerplay Goals: 6 (t-9th)

Shorthanded Goals: 1 (t-2nd)

Game Winning Goals: 5 (t-9th)

Shots: 258 (17th)

The breakout star for the Legion last season, Machado has continued to explode offensively for Toronto. An 18 goal S91 rookie season, Machado followed it up with 25 goals in S92, and 44 goals in S93. That upward trajectory looks to continue, as Machado is on pace for 54 goals this year.

Mac Atlas
Goals: 25 (t-13th)

Powerplay Goals: 7 (t-7th)

Shorthanded Goals: 0 (t-28th)

Game Winning Goals: 3 (t-22nd)

Shots: 303 (6th)

Captain Mac and 20+ goal seasons go together like peanut butter and jelly. For the eighth straight season, it's locked in to happen. The challenge now for Atlas will be to catch the career high of 47 that was set last season, as he's on pace for 46 goals. If he can catch fire down the stretch, 50 isn't completely out of reach for the first time.

Harry Callahan
Goals: 21 (t-25th)

Powerplay Goals: 6 (t-9th)

Shorthanded Goals: 1 (t-2nd)

Game Winning Goals: 4 (t-14th)

Shots: 319 (1st)

Similarly to Diego Machado, Harry Callahan has followed an upward trajectory in his career for goals. 24 in S91, 30 in S92, and 36 in S93, he's on pace for 39 goals this season. If he can pick it up, he can follow the pattern of 6 more goals a year to get to 42.
