FrostBeard 2,054
Howdy! So, for the Theme Week I had a lot to think about while reflecting on my time in VHLM. Could have talked about my time in Philly and make another thread with some tough claims, could have discussed my experience being a recreate player, could have talked about my ideas on how to improve VHLM but all that seems to be something I wouldn't be super interested in myself so here we, with my ideas on being a VHLM GM. Firstly, I do have to say this - I was a lousy VHLM GM. Yes, that is it, I am not saying anything else. Secondly, I have had great memories being a GM in VHLM. Even if sometimes they are associate with some tough things. I had my chacne to GM some great individuals on our community, some who have left the league but have remained very influencial. Elmebeck, TheFlash, Erik Summers, Banko, Emidas, Edu Stava and many more. These indivudals have me a responsibility to have a great chance to push myself forward and make as good of an effort as I can. Heck, it was quite funny - I still remember my conversation with Elmebeck about his moving to VHL straight away or spending another season in VHLM. It would have been so good for our VHLM squad to have a stud player like Elmebeck on our team but at the same time, I always had my mindset that moving to VHL is the priority. If you try to keep a player in M just because "my team needs it" is a thing I could never understand. I always tried to push my players to go and explore the beauty and romance of making it to VHL and having your career fully in your hands. That was my goal. These people shaped my idea of a team strongly focused on having individual conversations with all my player as often as I could. That gave me a focus on leadership behind the scenes and never to have a focus on LR activity, which probably many would associate with bad GMing. Right now, having 4 teams under my GMing umbrella I can't say I ever had a superbly active LR. Houston Bulls, we had a bit of a quiet LR, Malmo was good, Beardislava was okay for the most part but wasn't super great and D.C. is quiet overall. I think that is just a part of me as a GM however. Some might think that my VHLM GM culmination was the cup victory in S68 but there are so many other moments that sit deeply for me and always make me smile and remember the good old times. Having a chance to interview so many new faces, to involve them in activities and make sure they grow and get a strong start. Winning a cup was nice. Especially to do it with players we had there, with out SHL Auto 12 army and many others who wanted to take that step and get something done was beautiful, even if it was outshined by the stupidity that happened afterwards in the Cup winning game thread on Forums. It is interesting - I don't remember a ton about my time in VHLM, I remember moments, conversations, deep night Discord calls with Elmebeck, superb conversations with Edustava, TheFlash being an absolute godly individual, Erik Summers with his snarky but very good comments that made us improve ourselves. VHLM GM job is cool, if you want to do the best you can. 50% is not enough. Cheers!
