Gaikoku-hito 2,089
From epic comeback to limp noodle, Vancouver Wolves have been through the ringer after going down unexpectedly in the first-round aka Wildcard series against New York Americans only to bounce back to win three straight games and claim the series. I was thinking that I was going to focus on how things changed in favor of the Vancouver Wolves from individual team success leading to overall team success and what I had hoped would have set the ball rolling into what should have been a long playoff run for the pacific northwest dogs; but it wasn`t meant to be as before I even finished writing or even possible consider writing this media post, Vancouver has been bounced in the second round of the playoff by heavily favorite to lift the cup, Toronto Legion. Well, They (Toronto) were the favorites so why the surprise and what sounds like a bit of gripping? It is due to the nature in which Vancouver was bounced with first shocking aspect being the fact that Vancouver never really put up much of a fit unless you count the kicking and screaming as they were snuffed out in cold hard assassin like fashion by the Legion. Most expected a battle with defense against offense meeting in the open field with a back and forth like never seen before but that is far from what the crowds, fans, spectators, managers and broadcaster seen during this series. Like a thief in the middle of the night, Joel Castle creeped into the heads of the Vancouver Wolves one save at a time. For the fans it must have been like watching a hunger beast stalking his prey; which everyone seeing what was happening but not able to look away from the enviable killing blow. Three out of the four game were shut-outs as Joel Castle simple played with his kill in the other game allowing Vancouver a small glimpse of hope only to be dealt the final blow by Castle in the final game and posting rather impressive numbers; 0.75GA with a 0.969Sav% with 3SO in what should be one of the best if not the best playoff performance by a goaltender in a series. (actually 4th if I am correct via sav%) But this is where I start to wonder was this a case of Joel Castle being dominate or Vancouver Wolves inability to score showing it ugly head? Either way, It is sort of funny that the high flying offense team ends up winning their first round playoff match-up by rather playing strong defensively aid by a great goaltending performance leaving me with only one thought now, Who is going to stop Toronto from lifting the cup? Toronto has a long way to go before they lift the cup at the end of the playoffs but if nothing else they made a huge statement of intent with the fashion in which they cooly murders the Vancouver Wolves. What is next for Vancouver? Vancouver is likely to sit trying to clean up this mess and wonder what they could have done differently and hopefully will comeback much stronger as they now look to burry themselves in some Jameson and Soju!!
