Dorji Khan sat in the quiet locker room of the Halifax 21st, the echoes of the final buzzer still ringing in his ears. The Saskatoon Wild had just won the VHLM playoff finals in six hard-fought games, leaving Halifax two wins short of the Founder's cup. Long after the team left, Dorji just stayed reflecting on his past 2 years with Halifax. He didn't even take the time to get undressed from his uniform as he knew it would probably be the last time he would wear it. After leaving everything on the ice and the sting of defeat still fresh, Dorji knew he couldn’t dwell on it for too long.

As he packed up his gear, Dorji’s mind began to shift to the off-season. He had always been a player who thrived on preparation and hard work. This summer would be no different. He needed to come back stronger, faster, and more skilled if he was going to make the jump to the VHLE and become an impact player for Bratislava.

Dorji decided to start his off-season with a visit home to Mongolia. The vast, open landscapes and the time with his family would help him clear his mind and refocus. He planned to spend a few weeks there, reconnecting with his roots and finding the mental clarity he needed.

Once he returned from Mongolia, Dorji’s training regimen would kick into high gear. He had already mapped out a plan with his personal trainer.

Mornings would start with intense cardio sessions to improve his endurance. He knew that the grueling pace of the playoffs had taken a toll on him, and he wanted to be better prepared for those long, exhausting games.

Afternoons would be dedicated to strength training. Dorji aimed to add muscle without sacrificing his agility. He knew that being stronger on the puck and in the corners could make a significant difference in his game. His trainer had designed a program that combined weightlifting with functional exercises to enhance his on-ice performance.

Evenings would be for skill development. Dorji planned to spend hours on the ice, working on his stickhandling, shooting, and skating. He had identified areas in his game that needed improvement, particularly his accuracy and quickness. He would also watch game footage, analyzing his performance and learning from his mistakes.

Dorji also knew the importance of recovery. He incorporated yoga and stretching into his routine to maintain flexibility and prevent injuries. He planned to visit a sports psychologist to work on his mental toughness, ensuring he could stay focused and resilient under pressure.

As the summer went on, Dorji felt himself growing stronger and more confident. The disappointment of the playoff loss began to fade, replaced by a burning desire to succeed. He was determined to help The Watchmen to victory next season, in the hopes of lifting the championship trophy.

By the time training camp rolls around, Dorji would be in the best shape of his life. He'll be ready to face the challenges of the new season in  new league head-on, with the lessons of the past driving him forward. The road to redemption was long, but Dorji Khan was prepared to skate every inch of it.

It's been an amazing two seasons being able to play alongside you as well as manage a team you're leading. The amount of growth you've had over those two seasons has been great to see! Keep working hard and learning, and you will do great things in this league!

@ace_five_ Thank you so much for your kind words. It was a pleasure having you as a teammate and an AGM but also seeing succeed as both. You definitely helped me find my way from the beginning and for that I am thankful. I hope I can join you in Toronto in the near future. 🍻 Cheers
