Another VHL season is underway and it appears the off-season - both the time off and the training - have helped Malmo's Phillip Rave return to form.

After a strong sophomore season - 34 goals, 81 points, 442 shots on goal - Rave regressed significantly in his third season. But with a focus on refining his shot and working on his techniques for tracking loose pucks and winning board battles, Rave is playing at a high level early in the season for Malmo (who sport an 11-4-3 record). Through 18 games, Rave is on pace for 48 goals, 80 points, and 512 shots on goal, with a +13 rating that is tied for third on the team. He leads the Nighthawks in goals and shots.

Along with Riga and Moscow, the Nighthawks have created a bit of separation in the race at the top of the European Conference. They have continued to win games with the identity they have forged over the past few seasons and this season, boast probably the best offense of any recent Malmo team with six very talented forwards. So far, in his first year as starter, Karl Herzlich has performed admirably in net while rookie Jorgen Lovstrom has been inconsistent but certainly shown flashes of why he should be the long-term #1 in Malmo.
