Rookies in the VHLM:

 Where futures stars are made

The VHLM is like the starting point for young hockey players who dream big and are aspiring to make their mark in the VHL world. It’s a hockey league where players get to develop, where we provide them with the essential skills and experience needed to move up to higher levels of competition going to VHLE or for the very few who make the jump directly into the VHL

A place to grow and develop

Every year, new rookies join the VHLM, all pumped up to show what they can do and eager to showcase their talents and prove their worth. This league is all about helping them get better, teaching them the game (and teaching/getting them to earn TPE), and getting them used to the fast pace of hockey. Coaches, GMs and former players/mentors are there to guide them, making sure they’re ready for whatever comes next.

The big draft

One of the coolest things in the VHLM is the dispersal draft. This is where rookies get picked by teams and it’s a huge deal. The draft is a testament to the hard work and dedication of these young players, who have spent countless hours perfecting their craft. These players have worked super hard to get noticed, and getting drafted is the first big step. From here, they can work even harder on being drafted to the bigger leagues and move up to the VHLE and maybe even VHL.

Climbing the Ladder

The progression from the VHLM to the VHLE and then to the VHL is the path for many successful hockey players. The VHLE serves as a minor league, where players continue to develop their skills and gain valuable experience. It acts as a bridge between the VHLM and the VHL, providing a competitive environment that prepares players for the rigors of professional hockey. The ultimate goal is to make it to the VHL, where the top players compete. Making it to the VHL is a dream for many, and it shows how the VHLM helps build bright futures for these young athletes. I don’t know of any players who does not dream of making it and lift the cup or maybe even one day be inducted into the Hall of Fame with all the greats that came before them.

Segment of an interview with Dorji khan:

-Reporter: Hi Dorji, thanks for taking the time to chat with us. Can you tell us a bit about your rookie experience in the VHLM? How did the coaches and teammates help you?

-Dorji Khan: My rookie season in the VHLM was a wild ride. I was super excited but also pretty nervous. The pace of the game was way faster than what I was used to, but it was an amazing learning experience. I first signed late in the S92 only playing 5 games for the Philadelphia Reapers. But it didn’t take time to get valuable experience and contribute to winning all the way to the finals and lifting the cup! I was still pretty green in the league and didn’t know exactly what I was doing. Ended up being drafted late in the 6th round by Halifax 21st, 52nd overall. From there coaches and players stepped up to guide me in the right direction and extremely grateful for them. Now the Mongolian stallion is a force to be reckoned with. When they hear the name “Khan“ they know they have take him seriously now.

The VHLM is more than just a development league. It is a launching pad for young players with dreams of professional success. Through rigorous training, mentorship, and competitive play, the VHLM helps shape the future stars of hockey. Each year, a new wave of rookies embarks on this journey, driven by the hope of one day making it to the VHL and leaving their mark on the sport they love.
