Ahma 1,433
Taavetti Jokinen Prospect Scouting Report Taavetti started his ice hockey career early, as a young boy. His father, a retired VHL player named Fernando Jokinen, alongside Taavetti’s mother, Elisa Jokinen, taught the boy everything they knew about hockey. Much like his older brother, David, Taavetti was quick to learn and always wanted to learn more. Taavetti played in the Swiss Junior Leagues, where he spent most of his early career learning the tough lessons of hockey. HC Davos and its juniors, the Swiss National League team, was Taavetti’s path to becoming a professional and finally, at the age of 23, declaring for the illustrious Victory Hockey League. Taavetti had to live up to the high standards of his father. Which is why it took Taavetti until 23 years of age to be “allowed” to join the VHL. Taavetti was not blessed with a 6’6” massive frame, unlike both his father and big brother. This led to him trying to compensate for his lack of size with pure strength and skating ability. Already at 15 years old, Fernando noticed his son's skating speed and agility and started working even harder on it. Taavetti might not be naturally gifted with the same frame, and when playing in the HC Davos U16 team, he started to workout in the gym harder. Fernando took notice of Taavetti’s work ethic and hired a whole trainer team for his son. The hours spent enhancing his skating stride and technique means Taavetti was one of the best skaters in the Swiss NL league when was called up at 19 years old. He also had some impressive muscle built up too, weighing at 215 lbs. Pictured: Taavetti Jokinen in action! Strengths: Skating, strength. Aside from his size, Taavetti is pretty much identical in playstyle to his father and brother. He was just as eager to hit and just as reckless and undisciplined as both of them. Taavetti excels at the defensive side of the game. That is his clear main strength as a hockey player. He has been playing big penalty kill minutes his whole career. During his 4 seasons in the blue and yellow jersey of HC Davos, no one else played as many minutes in penalty kill situations. He led the league by over 150 minutes. While Taavetti is defensively great, he is not as good offensively as his brother was. Taavetti lacks that magical touch on the offensive zone. His shot selection needs some major work, and he still makes easy mistakes when passing. These are all things Taavetti has been working on for the past 2 years on getting better at. Weaknesses: Shooting, passing. Taavetti Jokinen is a solid top4 defenseman in the making. He is looking forward to joining the famous HC Davos Dynamo VHL organization!
