I’m pretty sure there are going to be some writings on curses in the VHL during theme week, and there is no way I could do it justice by writing about the Victory Cup Curse.  Instead, I’m going to gamble on something that my teammates may flip me some shit or even banish me from writing something ever again.  Hopefully the wrath doesn’t take hold on the team and if there is any revenge at all, it concentrates on Bollos de Trueno.

The curse is known as the “Don’t F with Simon Curse.”  I learned the power of that curse in the beginning of season 95.  Normally, I’m patient with games coming up as I can have empathy for those in charge of setting everything up, but the beginning of season 95 found me really excited being on the Vancouver Wolves loaded with a stacked team ready to conquer the league.

As time ticked by, my patience wore thin.  So much so that I couldn’t keep my fingers from typing something in the Wolves locker room.  That was when I quickly found out about the curse.  In a nutshell, I wrote for Simon to get off his ass and get the games going, and there couldn’t be any more excuses for Simon not to do his job.  As Forrest Gump said, “I’m not a smart man.”  The replies from my teammates was crystal clear.  I made a big boo boo and the team was going to suffer.  I was quickly admonished by Scurvy, in the most colorful words.  PMB followed up with a set of unkind words.  Girts pretty much wrote the season off for Vancouver.  Smarch added to Scurvy’s comments and kept his rapture going.  Frank, being the level headed general manager calmed the locker room down and hit me up in DM letting me know that I had strike one and had better get my shit together in order to stay on a high caliber team.  And then there was ScottyP.  He was drunk as shit and had no clue what happened; in fact, he missed the conversation completely and probably still doesn’t know how bad I F’d up.

It was a lesson learned, and the team paid the price.  Simon was so pissed off at my comments that Vancouver lost the first five games of the season and found themselves in the bottom of the barrel looking up at an impossible feat to overcome.  It wasn’t just the Vancouver locker room that was upset with my comments.  My wife was so disappointed in me because she knew it was my fault the trophy wouldn’t be going to Vancouver in season 95.  She put me on ice until the Wolves could get over .500.  Let me tell you, that blue line was terrible.  And then there was the dog…. She was so angry with me that she stopped making it easy for me to pick up her poop on the walks.  Instead of baking a cake on the short grass just off the trail, she went deep into the tall grass to force me to pick up her dookies while fighting the weeds.  It took several games for all of them to forgive me and give me another chance.  So folks,,,, if you’ve learned anything from this media spot, it shouldn’t be dont pick up poop in tall grass, but it should be “Dont F with Simon.”

We all need to learn from our mistakes and this isn`t the biggest blunder I have seen with someone mention something about winning or Simon!! I am not sure I should write about that but it happened in the Finals for Vancouver back in S89; if I remember correctly off the top of my head. That player has never won any cups due to the curse and has had more then his fair chances!!

Nice quick reminder don`t talk about winning until you actually have won!! Not sure that is a Simon or VHL thing but more general thing in sports!!
