We're approaching two-thirds of the way through the VHL season and the Malmo Nighthawks find themselves on a roll, with a 13-game winning streak leaving them atop the entire league at 36-9-1 with 73 points. The Vancouver Wolves (34-8-4, 72 points), Moscow Menace (33-8-5, 71 points) and HC Davos Dynamo (32-9-6, 70 points) are hot on their tails in what should be an exciting race to the finish for the Victory Cup.

Viktor Jensen leads the team with 63 points so far, authoring a fantastic finish to a storied Malmo career. He's right on the cusp of breaking Jacob Stone's all-time Malmo scoring record. Meanwhile, new defender Lucy Leitner (61 points, 117 hits, 104 blocked shots) and goaltender Jorgen Lovstrom (29-8-1, .935 SV%, 1.99 GAA, 4 shutouts) are putting up excellent seasons and could find themselves contending for VHL hardware.

Despite a management change in the off-season, it's clear that Malmo is once again among the best teams in the VHL. Of course, when it comes to Malmo, there's always the same elephant in the room when the season turns to the playoffs. It seems as though new GM Lexie Leitner will be given a quality opportunity for her team to see if the changes made this summer will have finally provided the Nighthawks with the right mix to break through.
