Nothing surprises me anymore with the Sims and how Simon treats teams in the playoffs. I’m pretty sure that the general managers have some idea, or better said a very good idea of how things work.  As I’m writing this, we are already two games into the conference finals and that is the topic that I have chosen for this week.

In the North American conference, Seattle was the better team against Vancouver in the end. Although on paper, it appeared that Vancouver may have had a stronger offense, Seattle just out muscled the Wolves and put them away in seven games. Toronto soundly defeated Calgary, which was no surprise to me as Toronto had been on a 12 game winning streak at the end of the season so they came into the playoffs flying high.

Now it comes down to the Seattle versus Toronto series and they are now tied one game a piece. The series could go either way considering what both teams have to offer.  Seattle has an incredible scoring machine while Toronto tends to favor defense and seeks opportunities to put the puck into the net. For Seattle, The Phantom of the VHL has been off the rails so far this playoff.  In addition to The Phantom of the VHL, Eric White Jr and Forum Content have been right there helping the team score. On defense, Seattle has the infamous Lazlo Holmes, who has been an an incredible defender her entire career. With support from Ahsoka Tano, it appears that Seattle will have the edge in this series.

In the European conference, Riga used the power of the victory cup curse to outlast Malmo and advance to the conference finals while HC Davos gave Moscow quite a bit of pressure. It was Moscow who dominated game 7 and advanced to the finals.

The series between Moscow and Riga thus far has not been what I expected, as Riga leads the series 2 games to 0.  If Moscow is to overcome this deficit, they are going to need Jarmo Ruutu to step up as he has yet to show his ability in playoff hockey. Maverick Goncalvez and Jillian Woods cannot carry the team against a solid Riga defense the entire series. For Riga, it looks like Axle Gunner and Severus Targaryen are able to tackle any obstacle in their way, and put the puck into the net.

The real showdown for this series could likely come down to the two pandas, Deadpanda against Red Panda.  Both goalies are talented and present a huge challenge for the other team, although it appeared that Deadpanda struggled in game 2. In the end, I think that Moscow is too talented to not climb out of this hole and defeat Riga to advance to the continental cup.

That being said, Moscow against Seattle in the finals will represent a well-deserved cup champion and provide for an exciting series. It will definitely be better than a Chiefs vs Eagles championship. If I were to predict right now who will win the cup, I am going with Moscow, as they always seem to come out victorious.  I hope I didnt just put a jinx on them!!
