MichkovSzn 22
Who is Jakub Kovar, The VHL’s Hottest New Draft Prospect With the VHL season having just wrapped up with the Seattle Bears and the Las Vegas Aces winning the Continental Cup and the Founder’s Cup respectively, it is only natural that we start to turn our attention to the next big event in the league, the VHL Draft. The day is quickly approaching where the league’s next stars will be selected and join the league. As always there is a lot of talk around the league about which players are going where, who’s going to make a trade with who, and what team looks poised to make a jump heading into next year. You’ve probably heard about the well known obvious top prospects of this draft with the likes of Cardinal Copia, Toby Bob, and Peter Venkman to name a few, and while all of these players are great today I want to talk about a player who has started to pop onto people’s radar as a potential top 10 pick as of late, and that player is Jakub Kovar. Jakub Kovar played this season in the VHLM with the lowly Philadelphia Reapers who finished second to last in the VHL with only 56 points, 14 back of 8th place Mexico City. VHLM scouts were not impressed with Kovar around draft time as the five foot seven, 195 pound winger from the Czech Republic seemed to have little upside with very little improvement in his game before the draft and a terrible TPE total of only 38 which was lowest of any prospect eligible for draft in S97 combined with the fact that he didn’t respond to any calls from GMs to interview. Overall it seemed like Kovar was uninterested in joining the VHLM which put off many teams around the league. This showed on draft night when every single franchise in the league passed on Kovar until he was finally selected at 32nd overall in the fourth round by Philadelphia. Following the draft it seemed like Kovar was following the path that many people expected him to follow with only around 50 TPE collected near the end of December, and a very low point total. However in early January things started to take a turn for the better for Kovar as he had multiple weeks earning 20 TPE or more. This pace has continued into February and Jakub was even top 3 in TPE in the week ending on February 2nd with 29 TPE. All of this has contributed to Kovar beginning to score at a much higher clip and contribute to a Philadelphia team that had a much better second half of the season. Jakub is currently ranked 14th in TPE among all draft eligible players and 10th among all draft eligible forwards with 161 TPE in total, but his ability to be a max TPE earner every week is helping him separate himself from the rest of the pack and could give him the edge over some recreates or welfare players. Currently he is expected to go somewhere in the range of the 12th-16th pick in the first round but don’t be shocked if he sneaks further up some teams draft boards as we get closer to draft night if he’s able to earn more TPE and impress in interviews. He certainly looks poised to become a draft steal for whatever team picks him up. 568 words, claiming for the week ending 2/23 Thunder, STZ and sadie 1 2 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/154833-who-is-jakub-kovar/ Share on other sites
