Daniel Janser 2,309
(graphic courtesy of Leandrofg) It is the in between season and NYA has made moves to chase the cup one more season. The brought in a highly decorated Guntis Gavilrovs from Vancouver in exchange for 147 year old and 'has broken everything' Wayne Gretzky. From the outside it looks like an odd deal since defence was not the concern in the last few seasons, but offensive production. On the other hand the Latvian giant is just coming from a Labatte and Valiq winning campaign, so there is that. The Empire State franchise has now all the defensive award winning players in Guntis and CGY united in their squad. Janser was awarded the Wylde Trophy for his defensive play, the newcomer GG also picked up the Funk trophy for showing the best improvement compared to the previous season. Both backs received Allstar team nods as well. It is safe to say, that the stay in NYA's defensive zone just became a notch more uncomfortable, especially when GG and CGY are paired together. Potential fate of an unsuspecting wannabe scorer in NYA defensive zone (dramatic re-enactment). In the mean time, Callum is playing in the ProAm. For the first time in a very long time, his dad chose not to participate, but Marcel premiered in this storied off-season tournament. While the younger Janser's performance is without reproach, his team the Baie-Comeau Beavers is last in the tournament at the end of the regular season. With his uncle, it is the other way round. He played his usual, no-nonsense, defensive-minded game, yet his team the Winnipeg Wheelbarrows is at the top of the standings. CGY has the most assists for a D (2nd overall), most hits for a D (4th overall), leads the PIM department, has the secondmost fights behind Thunder but the most bouts won and is the highest scoring back in the competition with 76 points. Here are there complete stats for your reading pleasure: Marcel: 72gp, 6g, 32a, 38pts, -1, 73 PIM, 83 hits, 97sb, 4ppg, 1gwg, 0-1-2 fighting record (W-L-T) Callum: 72gp, 12g, 64a, 76pts, -29, 241 PIM, 249 hits, 143sb, 7ppg, 2gwg, 4-0-5 fighting record, 2 first star nominations. So let's see how the Americans will fare this coming season. Were they right in forcing the competing window open for one more season? Will they finally get their hands on the coveted Continental Cup? Or will it end like so many times before in utter disappointment for their fan base who rivals the one in Toronto and their NHL team? Future will tell, but we can all be sure that the team and its management will do their level best to give the city their much deserved cup win. The rest will be depending as always with the fickle Hockey Gods, chief amongst them Simon T. After all, it is a difficult sport on a slippery surface and there is only so much one can control (just ask Patrik Stephan) As always, please find below links for related articles, and we will be back with more updates on CGY's career in due course. https://vhlforum.com/topic/152936-the-cgy-janser-story-part-xxxviii-post-season-interview-with-the-captain/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/153511-the-cgy-janser-story-part-xlix-interlude/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/154108-the-cgy-janser-story-part-l-one-third-gone/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/154577-the-cgy-janser-story-part-li-a-reflection-on-season-s97/ Spoiler @Girts @MubbleFubbles @Thunder 510 words Edited March 9 by Daniel Janser Thunder and Girts 2 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/155430-the-cgy-janser-story-part-lii-intermezzo/ Share on other sites
