:vhllogo:Toughest Guys in the VHL:vhllogo:

hockey fight

This week the league asked the VHL members to doing point tasks for this year’s theme week on “Tough Guys”. Unfortunately, there is a lot of data we cannot access anymore with the non-portal era, so some of the toughest VHL players will never be mentioned this week. Due to this we will examine the current VHL “Tough Guys” and not so “Tough Guys” and try to highlight some of the toughest and not so tough VHL players from the past few years in the portal era for the VHL

VHL “Tough Guys”:

Tommy Sleeves

(S98 3-1-1)

Tommy Sleeves has been a consistent face in the penalty box since beginning his VHL career in season ninety-one. In his eight-year career with the Helsinki Titans, Sleeves has won seventeen fights, which is an outstanding number in the VHL. This season Sleeves again has the most wins with 3 wins, 1 loss and one tie. With thirty more games left this season, one must believe Sleeves will find himself in more tussles before the end of season ninety-eight.

Guntis Gavilrovs

(S97 4-0-3)

Gavilrovs had a career season in season ninety-seven, putting up thirty-one goals and sixty-nine assists. While it was a career year offensively for Guntis, it was also a career year for his fists. Gavilrovs fought seven times in season ninety-seven, where he won four of those seven fights and also didn’t lose any of the seven fights. The 6’8 defenseman isn’t fighting as much this season with only two fights under his belt, both of which are ties.

Spanish Moon Moth

(S96 3-0-6)

Spanish Moon Moth is out pick for the tough guy status in season ninety-six with nine overall fights, where Moth won three of those nine fights. The year prior in season ninety-five Moth also had three fight wins, but other than those two seasons, Moth hadn’t won a fight in his VHL career, including not even participating in a fight many of the other season Moth was in the VHL.

Harry Callahan

(S95 3-0-4)

Harry Callahan is the next member of the tough guy list with his 3 fight wins in season ninety-five. Season ninety-five was an anomaly in terms of Callahan mixing it up as Callahan only had eight fight wins in his career, with thirty-seven percent of those wins coming in season ninety-five. Callahan who retired from the league at the end of last season, won’t need to drop the gloves any longer and if he does, might find himself in legal trouble.

Rex Wolffe Gregor

(S94 3-0-2)

The season ninety-four tough guy moniker goes to Rex Wolffe Gregor, who put up his dukes in fight fights that season, winning three of those five fights. Gregor was a consistent performer in fights in his VHL career, winning thirteen fights since he joined the VHL back in season eight-seven. Season ninety-four was the final VHL season for Gregor, so Gregor went down swinging in his final VHL season.

Alfred Champagne

(S93 5-0-2)

Champagne is next on the list, awarded the season ninety-three tough guy award with five wins in seven fights on the season. Season ninety-three saw a lot of fights throughout the season and Champagne won the second most fights on the season, behind John Jamesons six wins, but with Champagne not losing a fight in the season, we had to award the tough guy moniker to him. Over the course of his eight-year career, Champagne was in many fights, which also included fourteen fight wins over those eight seasons.

Sax Justice

(S92 4-0-1)

Sax Justice is the tough guy in the VHL from season ninety-two, which saw Justice take part in five fights that season, winning four of those five fights. Justice, who played parts of eight seasons in the VHL with Calgary, Seattle and Riga, only won five fights in his entire career, making the four wins in season ninety-two quite an anomaly, especially considering that Justice also only took part in eleven total fights in his entire eight-year career.

Larry Abass Jr

(S91 2-0-4)

Abass Jr. is the last VHL player we will look at for the VHL tough guys, giving the moniker to Abass Jr in season ninety-one. Abass Jr, joined the Calgary Wranglers for his rookie season in season eight-seven, where he took part in two fights that year losing one and tying the other. Abass Jr. wasn’t one to shy away from the rough stuff as the Canadian born winger took part in thirty-one fights in his VHL career, including nine fights in his final VHL season with Vancouver in season ninety-three.

VHL not so “Tough Guys”

Obuz Schneider Canet du Bocage

(S98 0-2-0)

Obuz Schnider Canet du Bocage is the unfortunate soul that finds themselves as the first person on our not so tough guy list as he has yet to win a fight this year or in fact yet to win a fight in his VHL career with a career fight record of 0-3-1. Obuz is in his last season in the VHL as he is currently in his eight season, so he has less than 30 games remaining to win his first VHL fight.

Stefan Nikolaev

(S97 0-4-6)

Nikolaev is the next VHLer on our not so tough guy list for the VHLs ninety-seventh season. Nikolaev took part in ten fights in season ninety-seven and lost four of those ten fights, while fighting to a draw in the six other fights. With ten fights in a season, one would have thought a fluke win would have happened, but unfortunately for Nikolaev that didn’t happen. Nikolaev has taken part in twenty-nine fights since joining the VHL back in season ninety-four and surprisingly hasn’t one a single one of those twenty-nine fights.

Toby Kadachi

(S96 0-3-4)

Next on the list is Toby Kadachi from season ninety-six. Kadachi took part in seven fights in season ninety-six, losing three of those seven fights during the season. The year prior to season ninety-six Kadachi appeared in fifteen fights while playing for the New York Americans, where he won four of those fifteen fights. Unfortunately, in season ninety-six Kadachi was unable to enter the win column but also showed admirably in most of his fights.
