When I recreated and made Yor Bjorven, I was really happy to get back into the role of goaltender. I've always been really fascinated by goalies, especially in hockey, and it's been ages since my first player retired and I left to go skate out for a few careers.

I knew coming into this that goalie would be a tougher position to fill, given the current ratio of supply vs demand with goaltending. I figured, however, that someone attempting to high/max earn would be useful to someone, no matter what.

As time as gone on, I've seen comments made from some people about how higher/better TPE goalies have been forced to play on teams closer to the bottom of the standings because better teams simply can't afford them. It gets into a very meta conversation about value and such, but the message I've received over time seems to be "after a certain point, it's no longer worth the salary cap investment to staff a max earning goalie." These thoughts are coming to mind again, naturally, as I'm watching the wave of s100 recreates hit the shelves, with a few goaltenders among them that I know I'll be competing with somewhere down the line.

Right now, I'm happy to be in a spot where I'm, at the very least, starting. I can only hope that Mississauga continues to be a force next season (we'll see how that goes), because if they're not, I don't think there's a chance of me joining a more competitive roster down the stretch. This is fine for the VHLM, since it's only the minors, but I can't help but wonder if I'll meet a similar fate somewhere in the VHL. I'm really excited about the upcoming draft, but part of me wonders if it was an awful idea, in hindsight, to try and get back in net?

Hey this is my 2nd goalie and sure it can be worrysome being a goalie, but i believe there is always a home for a goalie out there! remember to just keep earning and understand its your player. You're taking your time out of your life to do this hobby. Make it worthwhile to you. 💗

This is completely false and it's just people spouting off stuff to look knowledgeable. Exactly this popped up in BoG last season, so I went and looked over every team and found that almost all of the league's top goaltenders were playing for reasonably competitive teams. If anything, the reason why someone might have to play for a team that isn't top-tier would be that there are just limited spots available for starters in the first place and there are more good goalies than there are good teams.

A big part of the argument was that it doesn't appear that having the highest TPE as a goaltender is absolutely necessary to have numbers that are up there with the league's best. But that has always been true--the example I brought up in there was when Ajay Krishna had something like 550 TPE and led Warsaw to a Cup in the S70s. Some people thought the sky was falling and there was no longer a future for good earners in net, and guess what changed as a result: absolutely nothing. The sim engine didn't magically change the way it works, and the best performances are still generally put up by players with TPE levels that are at least competitive.

At the end of the day, this is just why you should never trust random VHL conjecture. Everyone thinks they know everything and that somehow no one else has figured any of it out in the last 18 years here.
