C-Breeze 260
A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing! So here we are, still standing and relatively unscathed, after surviving the bedlam that is otherwise known as the VHL draft. For season 99, I was afforded the best seat in the house, which allowed me to witness the carnage up close and personal for the very first time. As a draft eligible rookie, I was able to sit on the hot seat and experience all the twists and turns in what can only be described as an eye opening experience. Imagine if you will, an entire room filled with hopes and dreams that literally hang on the edge of each and every selection. The rookies all had their favourite destination and preferred pecking order more or less figured, so the only question was how close might they actually be to manifesting their VHL dream? With each pick the tension and uncertainty over final destinations grew exponentially, until even the sturdiest of draftees were quite literally quaking in their boots. As fate would have it, Chase Breeze was selected fourth overall by his hometown Vancouver Wolves! This was exactly what the young defender was hoping to hear, as Vancouver called his name and sent his dreams skyrocketing to fruition! While I wasn't there in-person, I have it on good authority that Chase and his friends partied long into the night to celebrate his dream come true! * * * Just before I wrap this up, I also wanted to share my rookie experience with the league in general. I suppose entire books could be written about this or that aspect of the VHL community. For my purposes however, I'll just focus on one thing, the people. As most of us know, (somewhere deep down inside), people are the heart of any community and especially so in a tight knit group like the VHL. Since arriving, I've had the good fortune to encounter a decent number of kind souls who are both supportive and always willing to lend a hand. In all honesty, there's not a lot of other places I can say that about, so the VHL has clearly distinguished itself as a very special place indeed. Last but not least, I owe a debt of sincere gratitude to every member who has gone out of their way to make me feel at home and to help me with the (somewhat steep) learning curve. It's so refreshing to spend quality time with people who actually want you to succeed, and dare I say, this is a very unique gift that keeps on giving! So in my humble opinion I would encourage members to cherish this gift and seek to help magnify it to others as best you can. Thank you VHL for bringing more of these positive qualities into my crazy life!
