First, the render effects are a bit overdone - Phaneuf's face looks a bit too orange. Also, some of the lighting seems a bit too strong; having lighting on the render's jersey is alright but the lighting should generally be at its strongest near the render's face (but not so strong that it's overwhelming). I'll also add that the blending could use a bit of work here, and I don't think the grid pattern really works in the background. Look: 2.75/3 - The effects and lighting are over done here but as a whole you did good and it's good you're trying new things. I like the overall look of this and the coloring. I also like that you left the text simple here because some crazy font would have looked bad imo.
