Minot, ND -- The VHLM is typically seen as a winger's dream, the type of league where, for instance, Vogon Jeltz can score 41 goals in 21 games. This season, though, the goalies are fighting back to make a stand, putting up some of the top goaltending performances that the VHLM has seen in years.

Gunnar Skovsgard is a VHLM veteran, and it's unsurprising to see him near the top of the charts given his Goalie of the Year award last season. However, this year for Moscow, he has been on a whole new level. With a .937 save percentage and a 1.90 goals against average, Skovsgard may be putting in one of the top goaltending performances in the minors of all-time. He's perhaps the sole reason that Moscow sits with a 14-6 record.

However, he has competition. The biggest surprise of the VHLM thus far has been the Oslo Storm, who hold the minor's best record at 18-2-1. Goalie Coca Cola, recently acquired this offseason, is a huge reason. With his .923 save percentage and league-leading 4 shut outs, he's showing Stockholm that perhaps he should be the goalie of the future.

Then, in third, Hans Wingate is holding on strong. His 2.40 GAA may not be as impressive as the others, but he's faced 658 shots this season, third most in the VHLM. Couple his .922 save percentage and 2 shut outs, and it only takes one slip from Skovsgard or Cola to get Wingate back in the conversation.
