Tylar 219
The Life of Marcel Faux General Marcel Faux was born in the Montreal suburb of Laval, Quebec on January 13th, 1995. Marcel Faux is one of two children from father Pierre Faux who was a Quebec curler and Chantal Faux who was a professional tennis player. A year before Marcel’s birth his brother Bronson Faux was born. The brothers are a year apart but Bronson is much bigger in stature than Marcel and their personalities are polar opposites. The brothers were best friends and inseparable on and off the ice. The middle class family of four was very active while the boys were growing up and the Faux boys participated in various sports. In particular Marcel played soccer and hockey while Bronson was good at just about every sport he tried from bowling to hockey. If the Faux family was not out on the pitch or at the rink they were at their sports shop they started in Montreal. The family lived and breathed sports and general physical activity. ~A young Marcel tired after a full day of hockey at the local rink Early Life The Faux’s laced up the skates at an early age and attended the weekly free skate sessions at their local rink. Marcel in particular learn to skate very early but could not quite understand the game of hockey at first. Bronson was a natural at hockey and like always Marcel wanted to be too. Throughout their childhood the Faux boys were rink rats as they continued to gain hockey skills and eventually begin to play in the local minor hockey leagues by age 7. The Faux brothers played together through their minor hockey years from ages 7-12 because Marcel Faux would age advance so he could play with his brother. Although Marcel enjoyed hockey, he also enjoyed playing soccer. Marcel was involved with the Timbits soccer program that is in communities across Canada starting at age 5 for young children. Marcel was passionate about both sports and excelled at both. By age 10 Marcel fully committed to hockey because Bronson had become a successful minor hockey player and Marcel wanted to be as well so he had to fully commit to the sport and compete with Bronson to see who was better since Marcel was not focusing solely on hockey. The competition between the boys was not just about hockey it was for everything they did from mini sticks to board games. The majority of the time Bronson came out on top in competition but it just drove Marcel to become better. Marcel looked up to his big brother and wanted to be just like him and do everything his brother did. ~Marcel playing Timbits soccer at age 6 High School High school for Marcel was all about his dream to go to Harvard University in the United States. He loved and enjoyed school a lot. His favourite subject in school was mathematics. In particular he enjoyed learning statistics in high school. Marcel has always been good with number which is why he excels in statistics. Hockey was not a major priority for Marcel in the beginning as he wanted to become highly educated and become a successful business owner like his parents. When Marcel was not at the rink he was either studying, working or reading a book. School was a way for Marcel to separate himself from his brother as Marcel was always better in school than Bronson. In high school he struggled to make friends and stuck to himself the majority of the time. Marcel was always shy and a bit of an outcast. It was something he was working on but could not get over. Then Tragedy struck the Faux family when parents Pierre and Chantal were killed in a car accident heading to their boys hockey game. After the car accident Marcel and Bronson ended up moving to Toronto to live with their uncle and Marcel’s life had turned upside down. Marcel went into a period of depression and turned to hockey to try and find himself again. ~Marcel always studying at home in his room Hockey Throughout his life Marcel played his minor hockey in Laval then began to play at the higher levels of Midget AAA and the Quebec Junior A Hockey League. In Midget AAA he played for the Rousseau Royal de Laval-Montréal which allowed Marcel to stay home unlike Bronson who left home to play hockey. Marcel was uncomfortable leaving home to play hockey because he would have trouble adjusting away from home. He played two seasons in Laval which one was an under-age season in his Midget AAA career. In those two seasons with Laval he was over a point per game player which got him noticed by Quebec Major Junior league teams but Marcel did not get drafted in his first eligible year and ended up playing a season in the Quebec Junior A Hockey League for the Montreal-Est Rangers. With Montreal he recorded 80 points in 52 games and was starting to get more attention from QMJHL scouts. Then after his Junior A season Marcel was drafted in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft in the 8th round by the Blainville-Boisbriand Armanda. Marcel attended his first Quebec Major Junior Hockey League training camp the following year but would never end up reporting or playing a game in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Instead Bronson and Marcel would end up taking a break from hockey for two years after the death of their parents. The brothers would end up trying out for some Central Ontario Junior C Hockey League teams in the Greater Toronto Area and catching on with the Uxbridge Bruins before slowing making their way up the ranks and eventually deciding on trying the VHL. ~Marcel playing Midget AAA in Quebec VHLM/VHL Now Marcel’s brother Bronson Faux is in the VHL after being drafted 2nd overall by the Riga Reign in the S43 VHL Entry Draft after playing his draft year in the VHLM. Marcel was a late entree in the S43 VHLM Dispersal Draft and was drafted 11th overall by the Saskatoon Wild. His VHLM career has gotten off to a rocky start after a rough pre-season with zero points. His Saskatoon Wild team has not won in six regular season games to begin the year and Faux has record only two goals in those six losses. The Wild as a team have been struggling to produce offence and keep pucks out of the net. Faux now just needs to focus on improving his own game and the team success will come eventually. With his VHLM career off to a rocky start he will look to get back on track in order to get himself drafted in the S44 VHL Entry Draft at the end of the season.
