This week VHLM Weekly featured an article on the growth of Oslo Storm rookie, Evgeny Nezhmetdinov (see The Growth of the Cucumber). In response, Paul from Staffordshire had the following to say:

I don't always agree with VHLM Weekly, so it's quite a relief to say that I completely agree with the article on Kiyar. The little Kazakh has really grown up over the past few weeks, and I'm really excited to see what the future has in store for him. He came to Oslo with a big reputation and this weird cucumber quirk, and after three games it seemed like the Storm had unearthed a real gem. What followed was not very inspiring though; he stopped scoring, and it seemed like he couldn't go one week without getting in a fight. I mean really, you either came to play hockey or to fight; if you came for the latter, just join a boxing club, or go to punk gigs or something. Stay the **** away from my hockey rink.

I don't know what's changed in the past few weeks, but it's been a joy to watch him play. He made the difference against Brampton, and if he continues to produce points on the top line, Oslo will be in great shape. Coutzen has been an absolute fiend on that line, and Nezhmetdinov can contribute points it means that they can keep Reuel on the second line, which would give them two top lines that will make opponents quake in their boots. Coutzen and Reuel have been on fire, but they need guys like Nezhmetdinov and Babiy to back them up. If everything stays as it is, the future is very bright for Oslo. Yes, Saskatoon and Yukon have been in excellent form as well, but I wouldn't discount Oslo when it comes to play-off time; they look a match for anyone, and with Clegane in goal they have a chance of beating anyone over seven games. Long live the cucumber!
