Goaltenders set the stage for S45 VHL Entry Draft

The S45 VHL Entry Draft is shaping up to be one for the ages, that is if you're looking for a goaltender.

While Phil Hamilton headlines a solid crop of draft-eligible defensemen, a lack of offensive talent is mitigated by a plethora of netminders who are poised to make their mark on the draft's first round.

According to this writers very limited research, this could be the first draft in league history where four goaltenders are selected in round one of the draft. Sure, several VHL teams are in absolute desperate need for a long-term building block in net, but make no mistake that this draft has some serious talent in the crease.

Leading the way is Yukon goalie Greg Clegane, a surefire pick by the Helsinki Titans, who possess both of the top picks in the draft. Beyond Clegane, things start to get a little murkier.

Ariel Weinstein is the next on the big board but could have several landing spots depending on how the draft shakes out. Sandro Clegane, the less talented of the brother duo, is also pegged as a first round pick, although some scouts have expressed concerns over his propensity to slack off in practice.

And let's not forget about Ryan Price, the Chicago native who has been quietly working his way up the chart over recent weeks. While it might be a stretch to include him in round 1, don't be surprised if he too makes it a quartet of goaltenders off the board before pick 11.
