The night every sports prospect dreams of took place this week. We are of course talking about the draft, and in this case the Season Forty-Five VHL Entry Draft. This years' draft was a mix of old and new, something the league has been lacking for the past few seasons. This week we'll take a look at the draft and give some insight into what VHL teams were thinking.

1. Phil Hamilton :hel:

There is no surprise here as the Titans jump on the franchise defenseman in Hamilton. With back to back picks in the draft Helsinki had the luxury of giving the Phil agency their first player selected with the number one pick in the VHL Entry Draft. Hamilton had a great year last season in the VHLM with the Yukon Rush, sitting second on the roster in points with twenty goals and seventy assists. Hamilton worked hard since declaring for the draft during the Season Forty-Three trade deadline week, racking up over 300 practice hours already. Hamilton will make the jump to the Titans next season and will look to solidify the back-end for the club.

2. Greg Clegane :hel:

With their second pick in the draft the Titans picked up a franchise goaltender, picking up the more developed Clegane brother. Clegane comes to Helsinki after spending last year with the Ottawa Lynx and Yukon Rush. After spending four games with the Ottawa Lynx, Clegane was sent to the Rush for a two draft picks and goaltender Teuvo Rinne. Clegane would go on to play sixty-eight games with the Rush last season, winning fifty-five of those games. Clegane would show his worth on the ice last season and with an outstanding player agency behind him, Clegane was set up for success. After doing his part during his draft season, putting in the extra work in on the ice and in the gym, Clegane was rewarded with the high draft selection by Helsinki. Now the Titans will look for Clegane to pay them back with exceptional play starting next season.

5. Biggu Kyanon :nya:

The biggest surprise in the top five of the Season Forty-Five VHL Entry Draft, would have to be how VHL General Managers let Biggu Kyanon slip to the number five spot. Kyanon was slated to be in the mix for one of the top three draft picks in many peoples minds heading into the draft, but in a shocking chain of events Kyanon didn't have his name called until the New York Americans stepped up to the podium. Kyanon had a great season in the VHLM last year with the Saskatoon Wild, a season that eventually led to a Founder's Cup. Kyanon put up thirty-nine goals and seventy-eight assists in the regular season for the wild, while adding three goals and eight assists in the teams nine playoff games. While they VHL fans around the world collectively scratch their heads about Kyanon, those in New York and inside the Americans organization can't believe their luck.
