Muller playing for Germany in the world juniors

Muller is a young defenseman from Hamburg, Germany. Muller is 5'11" and 170 pounds, Muller is a rather small defenseman, but don't let that fool you, his defensive play has potential to be elite. He is 18 years old and is right handed. Someone who has always aspired to be great at every level of play, Muller is not a prospect to be looked over. His skills are balanced and while he is a risk, his ceiling is quite high.

Strengths
Defense:
Muller may be small, but his positioning and defensive awareness is one of the best at his level. His ability to get into passing lanes and his ability to carry the defense on his team is the reason he has been the #1 defenseman on his team in the German league. His fearlessness in his own end is unparalleled and he is willing to get down to block a shot and to go into the corners to win puck battles.

Scoring: Muller has potential to be one of the best shooting defenseman we've ever seen. While he's not the largest, and his shot is not the most powerful, he is accurate and has some of the best puck-handling skills of defensemen at his level. It wouldn't be a surprise to see him lead the vhl in goals for defensemen during his prime.

Puck Handling: Muller has some great mitts. His ability to use his stick defensively and to hold the puck well is great. He doesn't often turn the puck over because he is incredible at protecting the puck. His Puck Handling skills help him greatly in the offensive zone as well, and he could be a great offensive defenseman because of that.

Weaknesses

Checking: Muller's size and strength don't allow him to effectively take the body often. A large opposing forward may be able to out power him, however Muller has been hitting the weight room recently and hopes to gain some strength to help with his checking.
Strength: Ironically one of Muller's biggest weaknesses is his strength. He's a small defender so he isn't able to be as strong as a defender that is a few inches taller than him. This causes his shot not to be elite and it is hard for him to win puck battles.
Leadership: Muller may have a bit of an attitude issue. He is not a very strong leader and has not worn any letters on his jersey during his short career. It may just be an attitude issue and he may mature over time, but Muller clearly doesnt have those "intangibles" that everyone loves so much.

Muller aspires to be one of the greats. His agent is notorious for picking up clients he thinks have the capability to be explosive. His last client, Mario De Rossi, during his prime was one of the best offensive players in the league. His agent believes that Muller believes he will be a much more dynamic player. He may be right because Muller looks like he could be an all-star later in his career.
