AwfulHomesick 148
Through the first weekend of the VHLM, the Bern Royals have kept a record over .500 but see themselves sitting outside of a playoff spot in the very competitive European Conference. Lead by the dynamic duo of newcomer Eliana Ben-Lev and defenseman Matt Rielly, there is no shortage of scoring in the team. What seems to plague the team this early into the campaign is defense. Matt Rielly has been more offensively potent than defensively, and the Royals coaching staff has been working with him on becoming more of a safe bet than a liability on the blue line. What is also to blame is the performance of aging veteran goaltender Vladimir Bodnar. While putting up W's, his save percentage and goals against average is nothing to brag about, currently showing 0.873% and 3.63% respectively in each column. What confused fans was the disappearance of new rookie sensation Blaine Olynick. In the first 8 games, all games have begun and ended with Bodnar in net. With the holiday season just passing, it was rough for Olynick to get a visa to play in Bern. As of Saturday night, Olynick landed in Bern and has had his first Royals practice. He is expected to suit up in his first VHLM game against the Yukon Rush, a team currently with a 4-4-0 record. With the long and winding season to come, things could go either way for the Bern Royals.
