Banackock 8,143
Mattias Forsberg Rookie Profile (VHLFutures.com) Name: Mattias Forsberg Position: Center Birthplace: Vastervik, Sweden Birthdate: June 23rd, 1994 (22 years old) Height: 6'2" Weight: 212 pounds Number: 88 All hail the mighty Sweden. When you hear rumbles of a truly gifted player about to enter any sort of hockey league, one of the first questions you'd ask is where are they from. Now we know Canada is huge on hockey and has contributed to the world some of the best talents to ever play the game. Despite Canada's dominance, other parts of the world have their share of talent too. One of them, again, is the all mighty Sweden. Known for the pure talent of quick skaters, gifted passers and players who have incredible aim and a knack for finding the back of the net. Their sticks are dangerous and their hands are made of gold. Trust me when I say this, you find yourself a Swedish talent that has promise and potential, do things right and he could develop into a franchise player that wreaks havoc to any league. Enter Mattias Forsberg. Everything we said above pretty much goes for Forsberg. Not only his he the nephew of the great, amazing, former Stanley cup champion and Swedish talent Peter Forsberg, but he also represents a very talented blood line which is engraved in his heritage and culture. The young center from Vastervik, Sweden is arguably one of the largest talents to officially make their names available for the upcoming S54 VHLM Draft. With some of the softest hands the Swedish Elite Junior League has ever seen, it's hard to see this guy fall short of the top 5. Though others may be ahead of him, a great investment is exactly what this kid is. Where he falls in the draft? Nobody truly could put a number on it, but we're going to show you why he deserves to be in the top 10. PROS 1. Face off man can win draws - What a surprise, right? Who would of thought that a center could win face offs? Well, for a VHLMer, it's a big deal. Sort of similar to the VHL, Centers aren't like herpes. You can't find them everywhere and while there are some, great ones are far and few. For somebody just entering the league, his FO rating currently sits at 60 OV and he's adamant that he's going to be higher up by the time playoffs conclude and he enters the S55 draft. While we think his expectations are high, we also believe that it's possible he achieves them. 2. Loyalty - It's a big one and it needs to be for him. Luckily for the Bears, you won't find too many more loyal people than Mattias Forsberg. His agent has extremely strong ties to the Seattle Bears organization of the VHL. When we say strong ties, we actually mean that he's the general manager. Luckily for the Bears, Forsberg said that there isn't another organization that he'd rather play for. Being a fan of Sven Wolf's career, he respected and appreciated a fellow Swedish players loyalty and determination for an organization. All things he hopes to bring to the Seattle franchise. 3. His shot? Yeah it's good. Aim? Hes got that too - There's similarities between Forsberg and Wolf, and then there's one big difference. Wolf was a pure play maker, Forsberg is a little bit of both. In our mind, they may end up around the same level for where their potential will allow them to climb, but Forsberg should have the stronger career offensively. We expect him to shine in his rookie season and be a player that has the potential to be a top 5 player in the VHL. Cons `1. Physical game? Negative - Let's face it. Take a look around a majority of leagues. How often do you hear of a Swedish player who is extremely offensively gifted but can also lay down some pretty massive checks. Not even that, but that can simply play a physical, checking style of game on top of the offense? Probably a few but not a whole lot. Forsberg simply put, does not follow in his uncles foot steps and currently does not possess a physical game to himself. Though, this is something you can expect to change likely as his VHL career moves along. 2. Passing - Though this is something he's extremely excited to work on, his passing trait is currently lacking heavily. He can make some good passes and this does not take away how gifted he his with his hands, plays or vision on the ice, but passing really isn't his forte right now. He has a real hard on for scoring goals and is a shoot first type of player. He wants to break records scoring goals, not for assists. Again, watch for this to change in the future as he balances himself out but always leads towards goal scoring (likely). 3. He's a risk - He's young, dumb and full of loyalty. Additionally, he's also his agents second player which means that there's a chance things could go wrong and he become a bigger bust than Pamela Anderson's titties. While we imagine this is probably low risk, there' always the possibility. Oh yeah, and he's a GM player - so how long will this guys career be? 898 words.
