Theo Axelsson has often been seen as one of the future stars of the VHL.  Ever since being drafted second overall in Season 50 by the Calgary Wranglers seemed to have a bright future.  While he’s had solid (and gradually improving) statistics over his first four seasons in the league, the Swede has never quite broken into the upper echelon of the VHL.  In Season 54, he may be doing just that.  Axelsson is currently seventh in the league in scoring, and is on track to break the 100-point margin for the first time in his career; he’s is also fourth in goals and still in the hunt for the Kevin Brooks Trophy.  While it’s still way too early to pick any award winners, the Titans forward also seems to be the frontrunner for his first Boulet Trophy as the top two-way forward in the league: not only has his offense greatly improved, but he’s once again leading the league in hits and is on pace to have over 400 hits for the second season in a row (he would be the first player in VHL history to do so).

While Helsinki still trails Stockholm by 12 points in the standings, Axelsson’s increased output could help the team in the long run - especially now that he’s signed a three-year contract extension that keeps him with the Titans for the rest of his career.
