murguy 27
ROOKIE PROFILE SCOUTING REPORT NAME: Brienne O'Tarth POSITION: GOALTENDER VHL DRAFT ELIGIBLE: S56 VHLM TEAM: SASKATOON WILD *************************************************************** VITALS: Age: 19 Height: 6'4" Weight: 198 Lbs. Birthplace: Sapphire Island, UK Jersey No. 33 **************************************************************** Brienne O'Tarth was a post-draft addition to the VHLM, signing as a Free Agent to the Saskatoon Wild during preseason. Currently, Brienne is one of 2 goalies declaring eligibility for the S56 VHL Draft. RECENT DRAFT RANKINGS have her listed at 14th Overall. Her late addition to the draft class means she has much work to do to improve in all aspects of her game. S55 STATS : SASKATOON WILD (As of this posting) GP: 25 | RECORD: 15-8-2 | GAA: 2.33 | SV%: 0.875 | SO: 2 | PS%: .600 ATTRIBUTE/STATISTICAL/INTANGIBLE PROS AND CONS (PRO) AGILITY: (rating: 45) Brienne is a tall goaltender standing at 6'4" but is not overly bulky, allowing her to move side-to-side quickly, and also to quickly transition from a stand-up to a butterfly position. Her innate athletic ability can help mask some of her inexperience and positional play in net. {PRO) REBOUND CONTROL: (rating: 45) Another positive aspect of her game is Brienne's ability to limit second chance opportunities. Saskatoon is a puck possession team that plays well to limit the shots against their raw rookie tending the pipes. Brienne has been good at corralling the puck after the shot attempts from the other team - that is, if she does make the first save - but we'll talk about that in cons (PRO) PLAYING TIME Giving Brienne a starting position on the team despite her lack of developed skills was a risky move by coach Corco, but he is gambling on the investment paying off by the time playoffs roll around. The more games she gets to play, the more quickly she will develop in the next off-season, and the more motivated she may be to spend time training to help give the team ahead of her a chance to unseat Oslo when the time comes (CON) EXPERIENCE/LEADERSHIP : (rating: 35/25) As mentioned, Brienne was signed just before the regular season started. She had never played a game at this level, had never even attended a practice, and has demonstrated the type of shaky performances you might expect. It is a good thing the Wild have a talented group of skaters to overcome the sheer lack of previous experience their goaltender has endured. (CON) HAND SPEED/REACTION TIME : (rating 38/40) Scouts for opposing teams are telling the shooters to delay, freeze the goalie, then shoot high glove side. Brienne has not yet developed the instincts and awareness to prevent goals from talented shooters. It is definitely an aspect of her game she will need to work on if she ever has intentions of keeping the puck out of the net. {CON) SAVE PERCENTAGE : (stat 0.875) As mentioned previously, Brienne's most glaring weakness is her low save percentage - the team limits chances against, but all teams need is a few chances and they'll likely get a couple goals. Her save percentage is last in the entire league, worse even than computer bot goalies. The team has been able to limit the opponents' scoring opportunities most games, but even then it has often resulted in the team taking L's just because it is basically easy to score goals on Brienne. That's going to have to change in a hurry if Saskatoon has hopes of upsetting Oslo this season. =================================================== PROSPECT OUTLOOK Only a team with the patience to wait for a rose to bloom from a thorn are likely to consider Brienne as a prospect. Most likely is that she will need several seasons in the VHLM to even be considered as a potential VHL starter. But as a late round no-risk selection, Brienne may eventually pan out but will not likely be worth a high pick. However, there is one aspect which bodes well: Corco 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/41356-claimed-rookie-profile-brienne-otarth-g/ Share on other sites
