Jeff Gow Prepares for VHL Career

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - Earlier this week, Philadelphia native Jeff Gow declared for the Season 57 VHL Entry Draft. Following the footsteps of many of the Gow agency's previous clients, Jeff turned down offers from various teams in the Canadian Hockey League, the Allsvenskan, and  the Swiss National League, as the Victory Hockey League has always been Jeff's number 1 priority.

"10, 15 years ago, kids grew up dreaming only about winning a Stanley Cup. With the creation of the VHL almost 10 years ago, things are different now. Watching Jim, Robin, Bernie, and Shayne play in this league showed me how much more it can offer than the NHL. I mean, it what other league can you play in cities like Helsinki, Cologne, Davos, Stockholm, and Riga? In the grand scheme of things, it's such a unique league, and one that I'm proud to join."

After officially joining the VHL, Jeff was assigned to the Victory Hockey League Minors (VHLM), where he was selected off of waivers by the Saskatoon Wild. With a full roster of forwards, Jeff was told that he would have to work hard in training in order to increase his ice time. The Wild are currently battling with the Ottawa Lynx (ironically, the VHLM team most associated with players from the Gow agency) for second place in the league, with both teams trailing the Oslo Storm.  Slotted as second line right wing and his natural left wing on the third line. Jeff is averaging 18 minutes per game, which is the lowest of all players on the team. However, with only 1 goal in 7 games so far, he has no one to blame but himself for his lack of playing time. Without an increase in production, why would the coach move him up in the line up?

Jim Gow, one of the partners of the Gow agency, has high hopes for this prospect.

"To date, I don't think anyone would argue that Robin hasn't been the best player that I've represented. As good as he was, Jeff can be better. I've seen him do things at his age that none of my previous clients could ever dream of. At this time, I can't speak for Jeff's plans regarding who he would prefer to play for, but I can say with confidence that Jeff will be the best player to ever come out of this agency. Obviously there's a lot that goes in to becoming a Hall of Fame player, but if there's anyone that I've ever represented who has a chance to get into the hall, it's Jeff."

For now, Jeff is just concentrating on what he can control and on improving his own game. He knows that VHL success is a marathon and not a sprint, but he's hoping that his season and a half in the minors will be able to get him a leg up over his competition.
