V2A’s agent Robbie Zimmers has talked to Cologne GM Anderson about his client’s next contract. Standard stuff right? Wrong. Robbie has told Anderson that the conversation begins with 6mill per for 2 years but the 2nd year has a PO on it and there are talks around the contract talks that say Robbie will tack on a NTC on both years.

Is V2A worth 6 million dollars? Who really knows? He has not been placed on a team that is looking to win too many games so his stats are hurt because of that. If he was placed on a team that was in win it mode V2A would show the league just how good of a goalie he really was. So you cannot really hold the stats on him that much. The team this season really has not outstanding talent at all and all wins were mostly because V2A gave them a chance to win. Sure they forwards chip in and the D sometimes plays a bit better letting only 40 shots get to V2A instead of 50+ but most wins are because V2A is looked to stand on his head and do his thing.

In there lies the problem. With an agent that loves to make his clients play the market should Cologne be concerned about losing their goalie to free agency? Should they be concerned that Robbie will tell V2A simply to pack his bags and go? The market maybe small for a goaltender so maybe Cologne is betting that V2A will stay because here he can be a starter and the market for a goalie is limited to teams in the same situation as Cologne. Robbie has told Anderson that the longer he waits to lock up his goalie the price tag will go up. How much? Who really knows but right now 6 mill per year on a 2 year deal seems like a steal of a deal.

A steal of a deal for a player that claimed when arriving in Cologne he would stay loyal and stick with the team till it was deemed they needed a change. But now getting his agent evolved might be viewed as a power play by the player. Trying to use his loyalty to his advantage because he can say if you want me to stay you need to pay. Oh and by the way deal with Robbie, he’s a bit of an ass. Which is a massive understatement.

Robbie was okay with taking less with SWC3 so he can cup hunt but with his next two clients it seems like he wants to win the cup but also get the money. Ko Kane and V2A can become a package deal one Ko Kane most likely pulls a opt out of season 3 of rookie deal. A solid hard hitting D and franchise goalie can take a prentender of a team to become a contender of a team real quick. For the right price that is. Buyer beware.

REVIEW:

A classic Robbie being Robbie article, and I don't mean that in a bad way. It's good every once in a while to have someone break up the monotone contract negotiations of the league. We'll see if your patience in Cologne is rewarded or if V2A forces a move elsewhere.
