OTTAWA, ONTARIO - Something very odd is going on in Ottawa. It's been a trend in the NHL for defensemen to do more in the offensive zone than before. The days of the pure defensive defenseman are basically gone. Defensemen like Brent Burns and Erik Karlsson are offensive leaders of their respective teams. However, the current Ottawa Lynx are taking this trend to the extreme. I'm too lazy to look up the exact stats at this time, but the top 4 point scorers on the team are all defensemen. The highest scoring forward on the team, Jeff Gow, has the 5th most points and 2nd most goals on the team. I don't know if this is just pure luck or randomness, but I can't remember a team that had this much scoring from the blue line. And it's not like this is a low TPE team either where someone has to score. There are a good number of decent TPE forwards, but the defensemen just keep scoring.
