Aleksei regressing since switch to D?

Slava Aleksei made a lowkey move to defense this off season. He has struggled so far one year after a season that saw him among the rookie of the year contenders. The move was looked at as a team first move but so far the young European player has looked out of sorts on the blue line. He is well behind last year's point totals and has even taken a penalty! But for his part, he has nothing to complain about seeing as his Riga team looks well on its way to being the leagues best this season. Aleksei has no choice but to play defense for the rest of his career now. He is maybe regretting the decision and it may wind up cutting his career short, but at least for now, it's looking as if the European defender is in a good position to succeed on a team level. Time will tell if he can succeed as a defender as well.
