It’s been a wild week for Matt Thompson. Last Sunday the former forward of the Ottawa Lynx was drafted first overall by the Seattle Bears; completing the second of his objectives as a player after capturing the Founder’s Cup in his first season.

“It feels great to be drafted first, especially by the Seattle Bears. Obviously they were relatively low on my top locations list but Seattle has always been a great team for the Beketov agency and I hope to keep that trend going. Plus going first was obviously an objective for myself."

The Bears managed to pick up goaltender Roger Sterling in the first round as well, completing a very solid round for the team looking toward a rebuild.

“Roger is thus far an amazing teammate. He really put in a ton of work right before the draft to really make sure people took notice of him and Seattle definitely did. As soon as I saw him available at 4th I got really excited about the possibility of Seattle picking both of us up. I think we really have a good head start looking into the seasons to come with Roger and I as well as everyone else that we picked up at the draft. Considering the Bears were very close to the final last season it’s honestly great to see how fast the rebuild is starting."
