Tzuyu Gets First Taste of VHLM

Tzuyu has been on some pretty big stages in the past, performing in front of hundreds of thousands is not something new for her. The pressure of performing has therefore never been an issue for her. This however was an entirely new situation in the VHLM where she has signed on with the Ottawa Lynx on a try out contract till the end of the season. We caught up with the aspiring prospect to see what her first few games have been like.

 

“Its been really fun, but also a real eye opener as well. I think the coaching staff have been just easing me into the style of game they have here in Ottawa but I think as soon as they can see what I can do with more time, they’ll be more comfortable playing me more. I think I’ve made some good plays so far and been able to keep with the pace easily. I’m looking forward to the playoffs going forward which should be starting here shortly.” – Tzuyu

 

Tzuyu, a female player hailing from Korea, has thus far dressed for 6 games for the Ottawa Lynx. With limited amount of ice time, she has managed to assist on two points in 75 minutes of play. Fairly impressive given the nature of it being her first few games. She has been able to showcase her smooth skating abilities and deft passing which has not looked out of place at all in this first few showings. Shes also been able to take the hits well, receiving some physicality from the larger players in the VHLM sofar.

 

 

VHLN managed to speak to another scout recently on her entry into the VHLM draft as well to talk about her status.

 

“We’ve been following her progress for quite some time now. She trained at the Asia Hockey Academy for awhile and has made herself eligible for the VHLM S62 draft. We’ve really liked her overall vision and offensive capabilities. She skates well so I think she will be one of the top contenders for the VHLM draft. That being said, I think she could progress to the VHL quite soon so that might hurt her draft status as any team picking her may only get her for a single year before she moves to the VHL. Overall she’d be a solid top 10 pick I think and whats great about her is marketability. She is a huge icon in the Asian entertainment industry and I think that will play into the pocketbooks. Putting her image on any VHL team will draw in fans from everywhere I think.” – Anonymous Scout

 

Despite all this, indications that Ottawa being a permanent location are doubtful for her. Ottawa is cold and not exactly the greatest place to play due to its lack of transportation to the Arena and the general population of the city is not of big businesses and luxury activities. It likely would be prudent for her to prefer a more high profile city to play in, or at least one with a more luxury entertainment crowd.
